I went out with my son yesterday. I filled rear air shocks to 60 psi or so before we left.
70 miles or so round trip and on the way home the rear bottomed so bad.
I know so-cal roads are terrible but this is too much. I am too lazy to chase air leaks.

So I am going to install progressive rear shock springs.
I know there is a how-to in tech section but that doesn't say what springs to buy.

Could someone give me the part number? And maybe where to buy (cheaper.. :hihihi: ) other than directly from Progressive Suspensions?

Me too please. I felt sure that my new shock bushes and back tire would return the Rats Nest to its glory days of throwing her onto the center stand with ease. It turns out that my rear springs have sagged in my air shocks and that is the reason that the center stand in now a pita to use. Luckily with my new rh valve stem I can now put air in the rear tire on the side stand. Even if the valve stem is in the wrong spot with my new spring in the Vetter pannier retaining lock I can simply remove the pannier with the key.

Just for a moment..... :0fftopic:

Tony, check the centerstand and be sure the cross tube is perfectly straight. It was only about 2 months after I started having trouble putting my bike up on the centerstand that my cross tube failed and the bike fell foward.

OK, back on topic.....

:thanks: Dan and Gerry. I will check both things out. I would like to order complete Progressive air shock replacements as my LH unit has all the chrome peeling off. As always finances are the major consideration but when you need to change springs and the inserts, the really what you need is complete new units ( or good second hand) :(

If you go with good used, Joel and I researched and found the 1983 rears have a higher load carrying capacity.
:thanks: again Dan and Joel :good:

The Progressives spring install by Aapple in the gallery shows how to do it, the last page gives the part numbers https://classicgoldwings.com/forum/galle ... um_id=1263

Oops!
Sorry, I missed it.
Thanks!

I had to replace the rear shocks on my money pit and couldn't afford the air shocks and wanted to lower her so went with a set of used progressive 412's off eBay for $60. I chose lowrider 11.5" but I've seen them in lengths up to 13.5". They are common to Harleys also so often fairly new pulls are avail cheap esp if you want stock lengths. They fit, but now I'm missing both lower shock bolts and need to know what size to go buy at a hardware store if anyone knows...

When I bought my Progressive rear springs, I got them(and the seals) from Cheapcycleparts. Last time I looked, they didn't still have the Progressive springs, but they might now. Well worth the effort to rebuild them, imho, as long as the lower part of the damper is not all gouged up. :good:

:clapping: :good:
Please list the part # if available, for future reference.

Progressive Suspension Spring (Kit D) 00-1170

That's the same part # as mine. :thanks: :good:

You guys just want me to spend more money :(
I do want to rebuild the shocks on the Rats Nest with progressive springs and dampers but my rh shock is peeling chrome so I would need a new/old shock replacement as well. Mucho dinero :(

The outer cover on the top side is NOT a sealing surface, so if that is where the chrome is peeling, it's not a problem. IF the lower part that the boot covers(the actual damper) is damaged, THEN you would need to replace the dampers.

You are right Joel but I couldn't rebuild it with it looking in such poor condition. I will never have the prettiest bike to ride but when over half the chrome has gone and the other half looks like it has acne it seems like it would be a waste of money/ time on that one.

Bead, or sand blast the can's, then continue to prepare surface to an even shine, then clear coat, or sand & paint cans. Paint is least expensive, not too hard to do,& saves ya some cash. Hardest part is color choice, could get creative with it. Necessity is the mother of invention, after all.
I have an extra set of used but good set of progressives springs available. Guy didn't pay up, so let me know if interested,$25.00+shipping.
