Took starter apart to clean, and it was dirty in there. Question I have can you spin starter by hand on the SHAFT side that goes into motor. Reason I'm asking is my is real hard to turn before and after cleaning. It's like dragging. Brushes were good. It spins when you put 12 volt to it.

Turning the motor from the splined shaft that the chain sprocket goes on is tough, it's geared way down.
If it turns good with power you're good.
If it turns good with power you're good.
hmmm .from experience i can...you can get the gearhead on one tooth off and it can blid the started good ...but even when right they can be kind of hard to get going with your hand as power ....all the avantages the gearing has for the starter to turn motor ...become the opposite when trying to turn the starter with shaft by hand ....so maybe nothing at all wrong
