Hi there CLASSIC GOLDWINGS I'm new to the forum. I've liked what I've read in the past so I thought I would join!
My problem is, I bought one of those rear light pigtails that allows the turn signals to act as brake lights and such. However; the OE pigtail on the bike has a 5 pin connector while the converter pigtail has a 6 pin connector. Our bike is the Interstate so I looked at a schematic for the SEI wiring thinking maybe there was a difference with the fancier bike but the tail light/turn light connectors are the same. I see these aftermarket pigtails for sale on lots of those online stores (Sabercycle, etal) so they must sell and therefore work for someone. So can anyone give me (clueless) a clue? Thanks.

welcome to classic ... im kind of clueless here too ... i change the rear sockets in turn signals to get running lights ...like the front is and wired accordingly but that was a standard bike not a dresser

Welcome from North TEXAS DFW area...... Got a part.number or manufacturer? ? I might be able to figure it out if I can get a description of the converter...

Thanks for the quick response. If you go to CYCLEMAX.COM and search for B2-204 you can see the part I'm referring to. Again thanks.

Have you tried the new 6 pin plugged into your wiring harness or is that not possible (different plug) or is the 5 pin a 6 pin plug with one removed? If the plugs are the same the extra pin is probably not that important. You could wire up these lights with only 4 wires /pins per side
1. Earth
2. Park/ clearance
3. Flasher/ turn signal
4. Brake/ stop

After checking the books and physically looking at some 84-85-86 bags that I have, where the saddlebag plugs into the main wiring harness on top of the rear fender, those two OEM connector should be a four pin. They use the same color code wire on each side except for the blue on right and orange on left for the signal lights. The OEM wire from the saddlebags runs up to the top of the fender and plugs in, pigtail is about 14-16 inches long. I looked at the part from Cyclemax, b2-204 and indeed there are six wires but the pigtails look awfully short in the pictures. The picture does not show the inside of the connector where I can see the pins. The only way they could make the six wires work with a four pin connector is to mate two like colored wires on the inside of the connector, like two greens and two browns on each side. So even though there are six wires, if the new connectors only have four pins and are long enough to reach the top of the rear fender there shouldn't be a problem, install them and put a 1157 bulb in the signal light socket on each side and you got it. If you have a six pin connector on the conversion kit, then, to put it politely, your screwed, unless you can find a six pin to four pin conversion connector. Frankly, I don't even know if they make such an animal. As a last resort you could snip off your OEM four pin ends with enough length to attach the new sockets and join the like colored wires on each of the two sockets, like both greens to one pin, both browns to one pin, and each of the other two colors to seperate pins. Totally confused now? Me too.

Well I went and plugged in the aftermarket pigtail and it blew the fuse. I then closely looked at the wiring itself on the pigtail and discovered the grounds were not in the same locations. I posted a pic below. Now I am really confused. Again any ideas. I contacted the retail store about this and said he would contact the manufacturer, we'll see.

Normally this would not cause the fuse to blow if the retaining ring was made of plastic and insulated the holder. If you are happy that the bike side of the plug is standard then just move the pins to match your original lights. I often make a tool out of a sharpened paper clip to release the lock tab and pin. If there is no park/side light supply in the vacant 6th pin location you will have to join the two yellow wires together ( provided yellow is side light in your new harness.

I got feedback from Gary at Cyclemax (which was highly appreciated) about the aftermarket stop/turn light pigtail. He asked around at the manufacturer and they said no one is around that dealt with this item when it was first marketed. So no answer so I just removed the pins in the clip lined them up with cycle side of the clip spliced the wire that was aligned with the open port and it worked. Not the way someone should have to deal with a plug and play part but what the hey. Again thanks for all the input. Steve
