I was just thinking how much I would like a set of Hella Halogen headlights in my car, It uses 7" round but then I got to thinking how much the flat lens GL H4 headlight looks the same, I think you know where I`m going. Anyone ever do this?
I would try if I had an extra GL headlight but the only one I have is in my Interstate.

Funny..I never thought of it that way  ...I decided to look on ebay and found a bunch of alternative H4 7" lights, I feel like I have been on a deserted island when I find the internet is loaded with things that were not available some 8 years ago, and really cheap too..I still like the idea of GL headlights though but I have found alternatives for less then 50 bucks.

Just watch out for some of the cheap H4 inserts as they are not up to the spec of the Hella or OEM Honda ones. Reflectors and fluting in the glass doesn't provide quality light and focusing :(

Thanks for the heads up Ansimp, Not having a GL headlight to use can you or anyone tell me if a car bulb has been used or will fit the mounting ring of a GL headlight., If that fits there then all I have to be concerned with is depth for fitment.
The aftermarket bulbs sure look nice but I would rather go with a known good beam like a GL bulb or Hella.

I can only speak for my Vetter fairing which has an H4 ( the bulb type) headlamp. On the 82 Interstate it was also an H4 style. The only problem with bulbs is the quality and most OEM type would be reasonable quality except you would be paying a premium for the box. Here in Oz I use what the wholesaler recommends which is Phillips ATM...

I put an automotive type H4 bulb in my '81 headlight a few months back, with no problems so far. I thought it might get too hot, and melt the housing, but it has not. Haven't used high beam solidly for any length of time yet, so not sure if it would be hot enough to cause a problem. :good:
