Even though I have had this bike since April and have done a fair amount of work on it I missed the fact that it has a grease fitting tucked away in the rear shaft housing. I discovered it on Saturday when I had my saddle bag off and I noticed a deposit of grundge on the rear housing near where the shock mounts. Hidden in all the stuff was a grease fitting. I assume it lubs a bearing or a spline of some sort. I cleaned it up and gave it two good shots of grease with my gun however since it appears to be sealed I wasn't sure how much to give it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

There's no way of knowing how much grease is in there or when it was greased last so id assume its dry and give it a couple more pumps.
Don't worry, there's plenty of room in that hollow tube for the grease to go.

Every 10k miles or so id give it another pump.....which reminds me....

I just did the same thing on my 83. I went to look for that fitting on my 84 and there isnt any. I looked them both up on a parts break down and they are completely different assemblies for the final drive and shaft. Never thought there would be that much of a difference from one year to the next.
