Hello I have a 83 naked goldwing and have been looking at adding the hard bags. What do I need to do this? I found some good deals on eBay of some off an 83. Don't know if I need brackets or what.
Thanks

It needs paint but I like the old girl

you will need the brackets, I have always thought that a set of bags makes a naked bike look just right!! Post some pictures when you get em on.!

Thank for the replies I am going to be asking a lot on here I have always worked on and owned v twins. This is an entire different animal.it has sportster exhaust rigged on it and few other modifications ill need to fix. Scored a repair manual on eBay for 20.00 yesterday.

"Brackets" is a misnomer, the hard bags bolt to the rear crash bars, that's what you need.

~O~
We have the Honda parts manuals in the gallery.
I think the bags and mounts parts needed are in there also.
If not then I could post pictures of the bags installed on mine for a visual.

Planning on getting the bars too .. Found a few local being parted out . Going sat to see what goodies I can get.

Megadeth,
Just in case you have not found any saddlebag mounting brackets yet, here are a couple of pics of my '82 Interstate bags and brackets.
Hope this helps.

Thanks man that helps a lot . I am bidding on the brackets on eBay now 1 day left . Wasn't sure they where right one but now I know. Figured I would get the brackets then find the bags. There is several local wings being parted out but the bags seem to be first thing to go.
Thanks again

Cool, good to know my pics helped you out.
I am going back and forth (major wishy-washy) on whether to keep the bags and re-install them. Thinking about going 1/2 naked on this bike. I just made that up, not sure what it means other than stripping off some excess touring stuff.
If you cant find any good ones anywhere let me know and I may be willing to part with them.
One thing, two really, that I find annoying about the stock bags are, 1) the lids dont have hinges and you cant flip it up and down easily with one hand.
2) The original rubber seals are getting old and they "stick" a little when putting the lid back on.
Just a couple of minor annoyances.
If I remember correctly there are solutions to both of these problems on either this site or Goldwingdocs. Anyway, the wealth of knowledge and willingness to help each other out is what makes this site my favorite.

My old Yamaha Venture had hard bags with really good hinges, but then again these Honda bags have a much better, more usable shape.
Good luck with the ebay hunt.
Phil

I scored complete set of bags with keys and brackets for $130. Should have them by the end of week. There in real good shape too.
