hi all .i am considering fitting a headlight modulator on my gl1100 just wondering what your experiences / thoughts are on them (hope this is the right forum if not apologies ) thanks sorry just found references in lighting/electrical .senior moment

This is the right forum.

I think modulators are one of the single best safety devices we can put on a bike but like Chas said, check your local laws first.

Another thing you can do I've found helps brighten the headlight is put a relay fed from the battery directly to power the fuse panel.
I noticed an improvement right away. I also changed the fuse panel to a blade type. The glass fuse ends were getting hot from the loose connection.
The relay also helps take load off the ignition switch.

spoke to a motorcycle officer here in uk and he
said whilst they are definitely illegal he would not enforce it as we need all the help we can get (off the record) so i'll be fitting one.
