Thanks to Joep's invite I found this great site. :music:

My name is Jim  and I am from Abilene Tx.. My Last Honda, no last motorcycle was a 305 Dream, Google that and it will give you clue to my age group.
I recently came across a deal :smilie_happy: and bought a 1980 1100 Interstate. The only major thing I could see missing was the rear brake master cylinder and the Kill switch. Of course most of the wiring for light and all needs attention. Has been stored inside since 1998 and I know the long storage time will have caused other problems I will have to find and fix.
I have already pulled carbs :Awe: and did a clean attempt. Changed oil and then tried to start , was able to get it going but did not run very smooth.

I Went by local bike shop for some info but was only told best thing to do was scrap it or part it out. :cheeky: That's what wrong with much of our society today -- we live in a throw away after use one!

I might add, compression check showed 149 on all but number 2 and it was 146. Also found coolant reservoir and radiator had coolant in them.

It will take time and money but I will get it road worthy again. If I can find the special screwdriver needed to do part of the carb adjustments I will try again to get it running smooth. If not, I will go ahead and order the complete carb kit, as well as change out the timing belts. adjusting valves and may also pull and flush tank, overhaul the brakes, then new tires and all the other small items I find wrong.. After that I will take apart and paint. Not sure how much rechroming I will do, need to check on source and cost.

I have found alot of info on this site as well as other dedicated to keeping them on the road. So bear with me through many questions as I start this restore. I will take some photos and post during this trip I start.

Salute All

Jim

sounds like a great project ...and yes the tank will need cleaning i just tried the electralise method ...forgive my spelling everyone else has to also :smilie_happy: anyway it work good on the 77 im restoring ...your past the big part motor runs but theres the ride test to see if the trans is working good also ...the compression figures look great on a bike thats been sitting and will probaby get better ....this is a good site great to have you

Welcome to the CGW Forums, Jim!!! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:
Sounds like a sweet project...at least it'll fire off and run, anyway! :yahoo:

Joep sent you to the right place for friendly advice and oldwing knowledge. No need to Google here, the 305 Dream was my second bike. I repainted it light blue with white lace on the fenders and sides of the tank. The helmet became lime green with neon pink and yellow dasies. :smilie_happy: That should date the era.
Good luck with the restoration and we're looking forward to the pictures.

Welcome aboard Jim. I'm happy you didn't follow the dummies advice to scrap it. These old bikes need a little TLC to revive but are very dependable once the maintenance is caught up.

Welcome, Jim.

I'm sure we can help you figure out whatever you need and if not we know many other sources.

Say about the carbs, I highly recommend Randakks kit.
Some of the others have ill fitting O rings or general inferior quality.
I used Randakks kit myself and wouldn't think to use any other.
Nothing in it for me or the forum just an honest experience.

Welcome Jim. If you have questions, ask away. Some one here should have the answer.
I agree with slabghost about scrapping the bike. Your doing the correct thing. :good:
Can't wait to see pics on how your doing.
And welcome again.
Oh by the way, I know that age group your talking about. :) :) :)

Welcome to the site from New Jersey! :clapping:

We have had quite a few "Barn Finds" that have sat for quite a few years (including mine) and safely put them back on the road! Ask away! :clapping:

Good to have you join the group...I've had the time of my life working on this old bike, if you ever feel yourself getting mad at something while working on it , it's time for a break... :salute:

Good to have you here, Jim...You'll love that '80 when you get her on the road. I also have an '80...There's a huge knowledge base here to help you out. Welcome!

Thanks all. Also Dan I'm rebuiding the carbs and must find one of the small crossover tubes that goes between # 2 & 4 carb. It is item # 10 on the illustrated parts breakdown under the "Carbs Parts 1". I posted in the parts wanted section where I should have but no luck yet. I've also contacted the people Randakk's recommended and still no luck.

BTW the larger tubes are still avalable from Honda as would be my luck. Next I'm going to try and go to the Carbs manufacturer if they still exist and check with them as I understand they were not made by Honda.

Just call me desperate :beg:

Thanks,
Jim
