fan switch is shot, change it out or clean up the one you have...I have a aftermarket switch on my ride off a 94 geo metro [modified direct plugin] instead of the piggy back type.. Hey you guy's wanta see it..????

^^^ yes.

Made it home safe(like I had a doubt....I ride a Honda!). It was the 7volt resister thingamagigger again. Usually it pegs both the fuel and temp gauge, but this time the fuel gauge stayed at about 1/2 tank which is where I thought the gas level was. After a short visit with my daughter I started home and all was fine until I was about 10 minutes from home. I was checking the gauges constantly and low-and-behold, the temp gauge that was just checked was pegged. Here's the rub, earlier the bike felt performance wise that it was overheating, on the way home pure power. What changed? I replaced the blown 10a fuse in the section marked ACC, but I'm guessing that was coincidental. Oh yeah, the rad fluid in the overflow, was only slightly warm when I got to my daughters(failing thermostat?).

It really did feel like it was losing power when the gauge was in the red...might have been in my head. More likely it was never overheating, no need for the fan, false readout on temp gauge. I realize this post is rambling...I had a couple beers.

Oh and as for doing anything on the raod with wire and the fan looked very very very difficult. Guess its time to put the one(7volt thing) I got from Dan in her.

~O~

The perception of the engine being low on power is prolly in yer head, since you thought it was overheating. I do the same thing. If I think there is a serious problem with any car I'm driving, I actually find myself trying to sit higher in the seat...trying to take my weight off of the seat....like that will actually make the problem go away or something...or make the car lighter, so it will at least coast a little farther down the road if it does quit. :Doh2: :smilie_happy:
I've gotten to the point of not fully trusting my temp OR fuel gauges. I know if the fan is running, the engine is maybe a little warmer than "normal". The gauge may show it to be hot, or past the 1/2 way mark, or it may not at times...ya never know....
Yer prolly ok engine-wise.... :good:

I like beer too but my medicine's limit my intake, so I can only have 5 or 6 anymore...Five, where on Earth have you been...???

Glad it was a false read. Wish I'd have considered the power supply but it didn't occur to me. :swoon:

Omega man, over at the Goldwingdoc's page the Admin. has a store page on his site and sells that 7 volt regulator for your bike, he makes them himself, just click on [ Store] at the top of the page.. I'm sure you will find it to be good quality..I trust him too...I'll take off my fan switch to show it here anyway..Maybe someone else would like to try what I did..who knows..??

Here's my fan switch mod. it's a little sloppy but it works perfectly and has for years..

So what did you do there beav?
It looks like you adapted the pins to match the plug on the bike?

Yes, I did, first I'd like to say I hope I didn't offend you Dan by referring O to Wingmans site for the 7 volt regulator, I didn't know you had them, he has them for all bikes and years it's a good thing for everyone here to know.. the fan switch,,, as you know there are two flat plugins inside the plastic case, what I did was I got some solid copper wire actually a strain off a large wire and I flattened one side so I could wedge it down the side of the plastic case right up next to the plugin so it's making full contact, then I removed the plastic casing off the male plugin and fitting that plug over the copper one so it goes up into the male plugin inside of it[makes it solid], once I fit everything the way it should be [width and height] I remove the male plugin from the copper piece , I use flux on the copper put it back and fill it with solder... put it in the plastic casing and fill it with JB Weld... let dry and your good..It's worked on my cycle for a few years now, the fan kicks on about 5/8's the way up on the gauge everytime, and it will cycle's on and off the it should at the correct temp...
