I really don't know where to start but here goes,
riding my 1983 wing the other day and all of a sudden it's running on 2 cyl.
I have checked everything, replaced the coils ,switched the spark boxes, checked the pick up coils both check out ok,
so it must be a fuel problem, I have removed the carbs, checked the float lvl,s on all 4 , floats are fine pulled all jetting and blew air thru all openings. reassembled the bike seemed to run great, went to the store doin fine, on the way back it starts to drop a cyl. idling it is only hitting on 3 cyl. I removed the vacuum screw and sprayed wd 40 into the hole and the cyl. started hitting. pulled the carbs again, checked everything on that carb no blockage, i have no way of trying to adjust the fuel air idle screw I have nothing that will get in that small area, could this be causing the problem ?
oh btw checked the fuel pump at idle 2 lbs, at 3000 2.5 everything seems to be correct, I'm lost any one have any ideas ?
thanks in advance, Bill

I guess the clue is that it ran great after cleaning the carbs then dropped a cyclinder or two just like it did before. Seems to me there is something clogging up the fuel system, Did you clean and inspect the little screens under the float seats?, They can crack or get a tear in the fabric and let stuff in gradually unless they are replaced.
If you do pull them againg I would also bench check the float levels before you put them in, not that it is the problem but it gives you a closer look at the carbs and inside the plenum to look for leaks and by draining each float bowl you can be assured you have the right ammount of fuel in each one.
Someone may have more you can check but that`s what I would do. I also hear from others the gas cap can clog up interfering with flow tof gas, people test for this by loosening the gas cap when the symptoms start.

i pulled the cap and it did act like it was preasureized...
It will pull air in but doesnt let it out, so it very well may have pressure but if it is clogged it makes it hard for the pump to deliver the fuel. Never had a bad cap but I run across people solving a starvation issue by testing/replacing them.
