This a big change from my 03 zx6r and the 68 suzuki i had years ago but ive been given it so cant say no!

It hasnt run in a long time, and i have yet to even pick it up! (sitting at grandparents) I was told it is an 1978 honda goldwing

-Can someone identify that fairing? It doesnt look like any windjammer ive seen..
-What else should i know about these bikes?

Looking forward to wrenching and hopefully riding again!

looking at the tail light and rear turn signals I say it a '79 wing and a bates fairing, '78 wings had round turn signals. I looked at this on another forum but couldn't enlarge the pic's

The fairing I have no idea about. I agree with the majority it's not a first (early) 75-77 generation GL 1000, but either a 78-79 GL 1000. Several of the styling cues are indicative of the 78-79 models. Check the tags on the steering head neck to be sure.

Appreciate the help! My uncle passed away a few years ago and my grandparents held onto this bike for awhile. I havnt picked it up yet, and dont want to haggle for more/better photos, but i've been reading a tonne about these things.. and look forward to piecing it back together! Plates on it say '87 so shes been sitting awhile....

I cant seem to match the front fairing to a bates or vetter still? Tough with the cruddy photos though..

I believe that is a Pacifico faring.

Looking at the fairing closer, I am going to say... none of the above. The lines just aren't right, and the problem with fairings from the 70's, there were just so many of them that unless you have the data plate, you just don't know for sure.

Agreed. Like Vetter, Pacifico made a lot of different farings that fit various bikes. Here are some other examples of Pacifico farings that are at least pretty close in my opinion:

Again thanks for the help! Will continue to piss off the wife and read about these older goldwings prior to finding time to pick it up! Will check VIN #s and post more pictures when I do so.

Other than the taillights, what makes it a 79 over a 78?

Cheers

tail light, turn signals, and rims
the round turn signals were used from '75-'78 the more rectangle turn signals '79 and later. tail light '78 has the round center section in the rectangle, '79 and later had the rectangle. the wheels for a '78 are similar to a '79 but look at them both and you'll notice a difference in the style

Right on! I got some frame/engine numbers, definately is a 1979 GL1000. Will know more about that fairing when i go pick her up! Are the engine/frame numbers supposed to match? They seem fairly close ...Frame # is GL 4113113 – Engine # appears to be GLOE 4113152

Well i have no idea on what im getting but i cant seem to wait to put all the peices back on and see what happens! All i know is she doesnt run, and hasnt turned over in a longgg time... Havnt even seen her in person!!

Well i finally made a ferry ride trip to pick it up! Fairings were in a plastic bag underneath the heavy seat... im really not sure what ive gotten myself into but very excited to see what it's got, or not?... Hardly had a chance to really look and see what's there and such, and some bits and peices are locked up in the luggage but will see soon! Last picture is brother I dragged to help load the bike, on a ferry,on a truck, on a bike!
