Finding a lot of parts in the Hondaline hard cases. And upper side fairings mixed with the seat and others in a big plastic bag.. funny enough are in decent condition! The top on the pistons have a good bend in the side that was exposed and open when i picked it up. Havnt even inspected the loose head or anything...

My uncles dream was to fix it up and ride in a toy run. He never made it, but ive got his ashes in a tail bag, and he will hopefully see this bike run again.

The aftermarket fairings are tagged CALAFIA

Can you post a pic of the bend in the Pistons? Maybe better to start a resurrection thread.
Would be easier to follow along and help.

Thats exactly what i thought it was.. Guess ive never seen one with those "reliefs". Neat!! Havnt had time to tinker with it but I wonder what will be wrong with her! Must be something if covers were off when i grabbed it! Does the colour seem to be stock or?

Cheers

No idea why it was taken apart. But you now need head gaskets. You'll need to make certain the heads and block are flat where the gaskets fit.

To which extent would most go? Its pretty gunked up, and seems to have sat for many years. Just replace pistons/rings/ timing belt and head gaskets and see what she can do? I havnt found too much time yet to even dig into it.

Cheers

Read some of the restoration posts and you will see that these old girls can recover fairly well with not a lot of expense and certainly without full disassembly of the engine.

Add a good cleaning to the list and as I said be certain the heads are flat. It doesn't take much of a low spot to cause the head gasket to fail. If the cylinders are not rust pitted or badly glazed I'd just install the heads with new belts and give her a go. Rings may be stuck to the cylinders but a little run time usually frees them up and you get back up to pretty decent compression.

What's the best way to clean top of head to remove old gasket material? Do I bother cleaning the Pistons?

Carefully use a straight razor blade.
Slow and patiently.
Resist the urge
to rush it and gouge up the machined surface.

I have used gasket remover spray. Just spray it in on and wait for it to work. Then with a plastic scraper, I scrape away without fear of damaging the aluminum.
