...My carbs are flooding out of the ports....i was checking them while i had them off....I checked the float level....and they all seem to be around 15.5 mm, so i put it back together.....i set me up a little container with a nipple.....ran a hose to my carb.....put some gas in the container..looks like it is coming straight out of the main jet.....and gas is actually running out of the ports... :head bang: ... :Awe: ..any ideals as to what i should check next..these carbs were suppose to be rebuilt a year ago. :headscratch: ......Thanks, Paul.

Paul, even though they were rebuilt, many times the float needle seat does not seal when full. I had to take mine out and clean them twice before they would seal! Also, even though 15.5 MM is correct, I had to adjust some of my floats to almost 17 MM to get them to stop leaking. I test them for leaks while out of the bike by taking the gas line off at the pump and running it from the petcock down to the carbs (with a full tank of gas) and open the petcock to pressurize the carbs. Leaks will show up pretty quick! After I was able to get them to stop leaking while stationary, I picked up the carbs and turned them 45 degress either way to simulate leaning into turns and found #1 still leaked! Cleaned the needles again and now they seal fine!

Hope this helps! :hi:

Setting higher may make it run lean, keep an eye on the plugs and listen for excessive ping.
Having to set them anything from spec indicates some other problem, possibly a need for new needles and seats.

Setting your floats to higher levels not a good idea you can starve the engine for gas at higher rpm's..if your floats are set correctly then you float needles are bad or dirty..non OEM needles are know to have issues..and OEM's are expensive. Setting float is a very specific process.carbs on end at a slight angle so the pins just touching the tag w/o pushing it in.

Quick bench check is tolevel the carbs on your bench , screw in 1/4" 1' long clear tubes into the drain holes..tie tubes up above the carbs, fill carbs with gas, funnel and tube hooked to #3 carb, and note the level in the tubes should be just below the lip of the bowl

Yep..very little and the floats need to square to the bowls and both level AND parallel with each other.

Good luck, let us know how it goes...You got you some really good advise ..Bench testing is a really good idea, you can see which carb is leaking...Sometimes the little springs in the needle float go bad or get stuck, other times the rubber on the point or tip wears out a little ring where it sits.. :rocks:

Chuck a Q tip in a drill with a bit of metal polish on it and just lightly polish the float valve seats. use a little polish to be sure the needle tips are clean. Rinse off the polish with carb cleaner and try them.
