Hey ya'll...my home puter has taken a doo-doo this morning. I am just now being able to get on-line, but my freekin antivirus program has been disabled somehow. I am only gonna be online for a couple of minutes, then I gotta try to figure out why my AV is not runnin. I had to restore to earlier date, and that has taken my over 4 hours to finish...and thenall I got was a blank, teal coloered screen. Now my AV is "Off", and I can't turn it back on. I'm using Avast, if anyone can help. Gotta get off line now, but I'll get back later....thanks!

I just found out about avast av, seems to be pretty good. Been running it for a couple weeks now.

I would just uninstall and reinstall, easiest fix but the real question is why did the Puter go kocka in the first place?
Hardware problem, bad software, virus, all possibilities.

This is from a false AV program (Trojan horse virus). It takes your Windows Explorer and turns all file attributes to "Hidden" You can get them back but since it is a trojan virus it is in your boot sector. (Had this happen twice on my work computer). The only way I could clear it was to reformat the hard drive and start from scratch.

Otay..I'm back! I un-installed Avast, and then re-installed...it's up and running now. Now I have to update the programs, but that's not a prollem.
Seems I got some kind of virus/infection from a disc someone gave me with pics on it yesterday, even tho I scanned it before I opened it.. When I tired to get on line this morn, I could not...it would never connect. I tried to restore to earlier time, but that gave me a blank, teal colored screen...not the dreaded blue "Fatal Error" screen, tho. I was finally able to get in an do a backup, before going full bore into a system restore....which I REALLY din't wanna do. Anywho...I'm back. I was afeered I wuz gonna hafta set-up my old puter for a while, and I actually did, just to see if the backup discs I made were good. Unfortunately, the other puter wouldn't read the discs...din't know what program created them...

Once I got this turd back up, I immediately copied ALL of my pics/docs, etc to DVD discs, just in case...

btw...I been usin Avast for several years, and it's great. I haven't gotten(downloaded) any kind of virus/malware on this computer since I've had it. Just my luck, I would get something from a disc...

Thanks for the info/tips, ya'll! :thanks:

I still haven't gotten my Avast to completely update yet. I spend 4 hours last nite trying to get the newest version d-loaded(dial up SUX! ), and it got the last 40 mb or so, and stopped... :sensored:

Know the issue. I've found that if it stops for any reason even dropped connection. I stop the download then restart.
