Bounced outside and jumped on my trusty steed again for a quick trip to the Dollar Store and at the stop sign which is a T intersection at about a 15 % downhill grade I apply the foot brake and nothing, nada, ziltch, the single front brake actually worked pretty good. :heat: I immediately renamed her the broken down, bowlegged swaybacked *******, readjusted my drawers and eased to the store and back home. Checked the rear reservoir, half full, pumped pedal several times and nothing working front or rear so I guess it's time to undress half the rear of the flea bitten old nag to get to the master cylinder cause that what sounds like has done went south. Did I mention that I will never own another dresser again :Awe: :head bang:

The almighty goldwing dresser goddess in charge of spreading hate and discontent, you know the one, that one that which causes the most labor for the most trivial of fixes.

Got the rear master cylinder off this morning, had to cut one brake line into since someone previously failed to use the proper tools and rounded off one of the flair nuts. I'm stumped, took it apart, no water, rust, pitting, bore is smooth as babies butt, cups look perfect and are soft, nothing stopped up. Now why won't it pump fluid, remember, the reservoir was still half full of fluid when I tore it down. You can work the pedal full throw, rod works, just won't pump. Is there something in there that bypasses pressure other than the pressure diff valve you can't mess with? I don't know of anything. It won't work front or rear calipers. Got me confused.

Won't pump if it doesn't get fluid to push. Check the little holes and reservoir feed passages.

I know it's not leaking on the front caliper and all the passages are open and passing air so I guess the tupperware starts coming off the rear tomorrow :Awe: . Anybody ever seen a 86 Aspy standard ? :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy:

Hmm half full master? .. definitely sounds like a leak some where... unless you always only run half full... brake pads move freely? Are they worn? .. is one side worn more than the other? Sticky calipers and gunky slide pins can stick the pads.... just my $ .02 worth of experience and that little return hole really is important and must be clear....(reminder to everyone even me! )

I'm getting good at undressing mine due to rear master cylinder issues. Your problem sounds like a failed seal in the main bore of the M/C. If that isn't the case, the only other cause I can think of is plugged ports leading from the reservoir into the main bore of the M/C.
My problem right now is the length of the piston being just long enough to cover the return port to the reservoir which causes the brakes to slowly lock up until the bleeder is opened to relieve the pressure. Now I'm waiting for a new M/C rebuild kit ($68.00 from honda dealer) to measure piston length and prove my guess right or wrong.

I have a standard and an aspy, both from '83 so the pics might mislead the untrained eye.

I just went thru and cleaned- flushed all calipers about two months ago and installed new pads. Been working great. Neither caliper front or rear is leaking. As I said I found nothing wrong with rear master cylinder so I cleaned, flushed, reassembled it. Found no contamination. Blocked off the line to front caliper at rear master because I didn't want to mess with replacing that line at this time, got to much other to get done so it takes a little farther to stop needless to say. I'll replace it later this winter. The rear master is working now, for how long I don't know, have to wait and see :beg: . For now I put the tupperware back on, but ONE MORE TIME and it's staying off and becomes a RAT BIKE. :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy:

Well, it didn't last to long, lost the rear brakes again today. Took the rear master cyl. off. Pushed the rod in an squirted fluid across the carport. On the bike, there was no pedal at all with the reservoir half full of fluid. I think it's haunted. :head bang: :smilie_happy:

Oops. I forgot I threatened Suzy like that. :whistling: I know it's not the caliper since I checked all that last time so I didn't have to remove the bag and I figured out how to get the M/C out without removing anything but the side cover on the right side. It's tight but doable. Guess it won't be turned into a "ratter" this time. :smilie_happy:
