Just wanted to say hi. A couple days ago a got a new to me 1987 GL1200a aspencade with about 45k miles which is older than I am. Based on the title and po, he bought it from a friend in 2001 with 43k miles so had been ridden very little in the last 10yrs. Both owners had it garage kept. Some minor scratches and marks on the right crash bars under but no damage.

I did a lot of reading before buying and nearest I can tell frame and center stand problems are not present but we all know it starts from the inside.

I have a lot to check on the bike but all seems to work except the cruise won't engage (I tried in 4th and 5th gears at speed as stated in the manual). Radio handlebar buttons are sticky.

First off I plan to do timing belts as they were last done in 2001 but only have 2k miles. Cheap insurance with an interference motor. The shifter seal needs attention and is weeping slightly. On the list is also full fluids change, replace brake caliper seals and upgrade brake lines. I do not trust 27 year old rubber lines on the brakes even though I do not see any signs of deterioration.

Our options seem limited on stainless braided with the linked braking system on the bike so what is everyone using?

The wing came about as I started more 2up last year and like to take several rides to see family (4-6 hrs + stops). I am fine alone but the FZ6 just gets buzzy after a while, especially if we take the highway to save some time.

some images of both. With the FZ set up in touring mode.
