No. Same voltage as our bike battery.

It would but only because the capacity is higher.
Still have to put the charge back in but sitting long enough a car battery will be drained too.

Just wondering if a car battery might not work better with an external alternator. Maybe not have the discharge problems with a one wire alt.

Charging discharge problems can only occur with a faulty rectifier which exists in a " one wire alternator" inside the unit. As alternators produce AC current they all need rectification to produce DC current. Most discharges are caused by faulty components or batteries, it can occur in rectifiers but in most cases a faulty diode in a rectifier causes less output by one phase ( usually .6 of a volt).

The Goldwing I was using to build my "adventure Wing" ended up having major corrosion from being stored outside.
That bike was parted out and I have another one now. Since business consumes all my time the project has not progressed.

It would be an excellent project for me regarding carb/ignition and the goal would be to have a reliable bike to explore.
Ground clearance and lack of reverse are my main concerns but a center mounted rear facing winch could get me out of a bind.

I have the sidecar frame tack welded and the suspension is mocked up...that's where it stands right now.

Thanks Paul for your response. I haven't measured ground clearance yet but from pictures I don't see much difference between the Gold Wings and the old Beemers and Guzzies with sidecars. I think I have the reverse figured out by using a 1200 rear bike section complete with final drive. This would allow a 12v. automotive starter to turn the sidecar final drive in reverse by activating a handlebar mounted push button. It would also give the sidecar a brake which helps with right hand turns.

One thing to consider it the max amp draw the winch is going to be partially based on the load it is pulling. The max amp draw on say a 5k winch is based on pulling 5 thousand pounds. You are probably pulling a little over a thousand pounds so the amp draw should be considerably less.

Personally I would keep a good AGM battery on the bike and say a small yard tractor AGM battery on the side car. That way if you are pulling more than 29 amps (what the stock stator will put out) the spare battery should keep you from draining the bikes battery. Very interesting thread and idea.

I like the idea of an electric reverse, and anything made with pre-fabricated parts is a bonus right?

Drain on the battery would be a concern although we use 3,000 lb winches on ATV and UTVs all the time. Smart use of the winch with proper recovery time should prevent issues. I was going to upgrade to a car sized battery anyway, placing it into the sidecar for ballast.

These are all excellent points that can make or break a project. I tend to collect the older Wings with kickstart back up. That could allow me to get the bike running if the battery was too low for electric start.
