:beg: Sure hope it is figured out pretty soon. It's getting nice out and I want to ride! :help: I don't want to be riding and listen to "hear that...is it getting worse?" I just want to drift off and not think when we ride.  :|

hmmmm its hard to tell ....from video how bad it is ....but it dosnt seem to be super bad ...sure is nice bike id ride it and not worry to much and keep close eye on coolant leval if it starts droping ...id say it has a small head gasket leak ...and has probably got 1000 head gaskets on it .....take out plugs and look sometimes you can see some build up of coolant on one where antifreeze is leaking

I hear it! My guess is that is a rod knock. (IMHO) It happens in the same progression mine did, but not as severe as mine was. You can ride on that engine for a long time before you really have to worry about it. It is more of an annoyance for you at this point than anything of concern. I know for fact that it will not come apart by itself! Mine should have imploded a long time ago but it started and ran like a clock.

That knock sounds exactly like mine, irritating as hell!

In the first video at the beginning as your pulling out the driveway I could hear it real good.
Could hear it at other times but louder around 2:26.

In the second video when you snap the throttle at 18 seconds I heard it.
Sounds a lot like mine but not as loud.

I've been chasing this knock short of splitting the motor, again.
I did split it once but I've learned since then there's some things I need to check differently.

This is just a guess, but I think it is more likely in the transmission. It just doesn't seem like a rod knock to me but I haven't heard a 1100 with a rod knock to know exactly what it sounds like.
Sounds like this:

(I have the worn bearings, loose pistons and worn out engine to prove it :hihihi: )

I believe I know whats wrong! He checked the spark. He has weak spark on the right side. Put same plugs in left side= strong spark. The coil would be even weaker as it gets hotter...right? :Egyptian:  :thank_you: NOW where do we get a new or newer coil? :heat:

Freebird also wants to know if 81-83 interchange. Do Aspencade (sp?) and Interstate engine parts interchange? If you have any good ideas all are welcome :) Mama wants to ride! :music3: :moped:

As far as the Aspy and Interstate engine parts, same engine in both. The Aspy is just a fancier version of the same bike. There are subtle differences in the year model of the engines, some having to do with carburetion, ignition and cam grinds, trans gear ratios and such. Swapping out complete engines is not a problem say a used 1100 to your bike. You might check out Dan's coil swap or mod, upgrading with the CBR coils. I think he made a tutorial on the subject. Happy wrenching.

Any 1000, 1100 motor can be fitted with pretty minor modification. The 84 1200 will fit pretty easily. Newer 1200's get more involved but can be fitted. Get the coils right first and see if the problem is fixed.

I am sooooo confused! It is only the right side that has weak spark! I even turned off the lights in the garage when we checked them. Do we need new wires on the right side? He really seems to love this old girl and we need to get her fixed.
