I replaced my rear tire. Noticed the rotor was shot. Replaced the rotor. Now my problem is the rear caliper-The bolt that the caliper slides on- the alum threads are shot. Is there a way to fix those threads?

I put red locktite on it but these are the brakes and I do not like to fudge in this area of the bike.

Will I have to replace the whole caliper? Can not find a nos for sale. And if I get a caliper off flea bay I will probably have to rebuild it.

Thanks for any input.

They make Heli-coils for alum thread repair wilcoy, check your local auto parts store. I don't know why it wouldn't work on a caliper, they work on aluminum heads for autos.

Never heard of those threads being buggered up ever, That`s allot of threads, if it is just partially damaged and not so loose it cant be tightened you could probably get away with it.
You`re saying it is the caliper thread, the one closer to the engine and not the one on the bracket right?
All else fails I would drop the 40 some bucks for a kit or take it to any good automotive shop and they can do it.
But then again you could probably get a used caliper for 40 bucks or less, I have a dual piston rear caliper for an 83` CB1100F and they do look similar..I`ll dig it out and have a look tomorrow.

So do you need a good bracket?
I have one, yours for shipping.

Pm me if interested.

best "fix" is a timesert which in an expensive beefier insert than helicoil. Helicoil will probably work . Replacing the bracket with an undamaged one I think is the best option.

Does your bolt look like this one? If so it is yours.

That bolt threads into the caliper, but slides in the bracket. There should be a rubber boot in the bracket, and grease on the bolt and in the hole. The other, smaller bolt slides in the caliper (on a sleeve) and threads into the bracket. So, the caliper is threaded for the larger bolt, and the bracket is threaded for the smaller one.

The caliper needs to be able to slide in and out freely with both bolts tightened.

If it is the caliper you need, I have one of those also that is just laying around collecting dust. It's yours if you want it too.

I got a heli yesterday to try to fix it.
Thanks
Way to go!...When you tap those threads be sure you tap strait..That`s a bolt that needs to be parallel with the other.
