So I recently liberated my Dads '75 GL1000. He's had it as long as I can remember and rode it to work everyday it was above freezing up until when he retired. Long story short its been sitting in a leaky shed for the past 15 years or so. The goal is to get it back on the road by June of this year. I've dug into it and haven't found any major issues so far. The plan was to get it down to the tops of the pistons just to check the cylinder walls to make sure water hadn't gotten in that far. This is what I found.
It turns over smoothly and you can't feel any of that with your hand. The other cylinder looks just like the last pic. The question is do I really need to split the cases on this motor? It has 68K miles on in and so far has looked remarkably well throughout.
:thanks:
Oh and Merry Christmas to everyone.
