Hi,

Trying to make a rusted gas tank presentable by painting over it.
The surface is chrome plated but there is rust between steel and chrome.

So far, I tried wire wheel, nylon wheel, and something wheel.

Something wheel worked best but still a lot of work. Is there easier way (acid or some magic chemical)?

Any machine shop, or sand blasting place around to bead blast it? :headscratch:

I wish I knew those places..
But I am more like cheap, DIY type. LOL

Have seen DIY's on different ways to set up blasting area's with very little to buy, :read: using stuff often in your garage, basement, etc. :headscratch: Then your ready for your next blasting job. :salute:

Yes, I thought about buying cheap blast cabinet from HF...
But I have no more space in my 2-car garage. I am not sure I can buy another old motorcycle so that I can utilize those DIY tools.

Maybe this Bridgestone 200RS is the last one unless I sell some of my current possession.

The stuff i'm speaking of use a bucket, tarp, pieces of hose, an air gun, couple pieces of wood, sort of stuff. :builder: Catch, & reblast the medium, a few times, glass beads, break & become more abrasive after a few cycles. There's a soda blaster set up as well :salute:

I have had some experience with this in the last few months, namely chromed fenders or mud guards. Both Front and rear. The front one got shot blasted but what the media they used I am not sure, but it was probably a metal oxide of some sort, it wasn't steel beads is I think they used a fine sand or grit. The rear one now that was done differently, the shop polished it off on their polisher or should say linisher (that uses a belt). They both came out real good, so taking it off with an abrasive is probably the way to go, however, you might just take off more than you wanted to, I would bite the bullet and pay to have it done. It is worth every penny.

Thanks.

Well, my something wheel and nylon wheel treatment went fairly well.
If I were to have it chrome plated, I will probably have it sand blasted but I am going to rattle-can paint it myself so just usual my cheap DIY job will do. LOL
