do ignition module's go bad very often,? would one for an 82 fit an 83? They're not very big,, u could actually carry one along... also i've heard of "dual" spark system's.. where there's another set of points on the other head.
yes a 1100 can be moded to have 1000 cams and ignition installed and still run on 1100 ignition ...with the 1000 ignition always ready to use ...but this is quite the mod to do as it involves custom setup wiring and cam installation from a 1000
agree with dan I have an 83 set up like I described but run the 1100 ignition on it ...no reason not too its fine ...im assuming your talking about spark units ....they go bad from bad plug ends and spark plug wires that back up heat when cant fire plugs and crack and melt sparkers the first things inline travaling backwards
The actual cause of the early 1100 spark units melting down is still debatable.
If it is caused by high resistance in the coil secondary circuit then it seems to me the later models would melt down also but they don't, at least I've never read of them melting.
To me, it's caused by too much current load through them because the early models didn't use a primary resistor.
yes on 80-81 that is huge factor dan right there for sure ...I have an 80 with cracked coils and melted out sparkers right now striped down to that point ....but those resistor plug ends for the spark plugs are in the weather and seem to be first thing to start trouble ...80-81 get there fast but they all degrade right there at the end of the wires ...I just went through some yesterday old green crappy corrosion ...once that happen its a heat fest and weak spark at plugs ...the extra energy gose to cracking coils and melting sparkers ...that how I see it anyway
