ok,, well,, after further review ( like looking!,, da) looks like two bolts hold the housing,, I wasn't aware that the fairing was removable by a single disconnect, so thanx for that info,, not sure which way I will try,, bike shut completely down at a stop sign, think it killed then came back on the other day. I know there are turorials on here somewhere for rebuilding the switch

You can remove the switch by using a long extension and 10mm socket... has a 6 position connector on the bottom. Only 5 positions are used.. I can work with you just pm questions.. did mine on a 81 interstate

If it's the same as my '81, you can remove JUST the electrical part of the switch without removing the key cylinder part, but that does require removing the fairing. I did mine not too long ago... :good:

Before getting into the iggy switch, have you checked your main fuse by the battery? Mine was doing weird stuff like that too when I first got it....dang thing would just shut off at a light. Might fire back up, might not. Checked the fuse, and it was not completely blown but just enough to every now and then(when hot) loose contact. Heck of a lot easier than messin with the iggy switch. Worth a lookie-loo.

thanx double A,, think it's the igniter switch though, as I have to jack w/it to get it (esp. the taillight) to come on.. I have to pay attention at night,, and make sure the tail light is turned on before I take off,, . think I got too hot working outside today,, needed to come in ,, didn't even want beer. so I don't know when im going to get at the bike.. switch acts exactly the same as ever,, but it won't be long and I will get to it. :builder: ya,,I will try and look at that fuse :thanks:

started on it today, got the wires out of the faring, and the connector loose, I'm having trouble downloading the images on AApple's tutorial,, ? lots of other projects going, could someone plz. take a look and see if it works ok. Ignition system repair/replace. Images 20708 thru 20713

You are right Trak, the images are not available. I would check this out with Dan and see if they have become hidden somewhere in the move.

:thanks: ignition working fine now.
Great!

:clapping:
Was it the switch, or did you find something else amiss in there?

contactor's,, needed cleaning,, (I haven't drove it yet). As soon as I switched it on for a test,, the tail light came on immediately,, where I did have to really work at it ,, . Also, the switch itself,, you can feel it click the position's,, where it never did that before,, like 'new' again... (I hope).. later :thanks:
