I have always had an issue with the turnsignals on my 1983 interstate. They would once every ten times or so fail to work.
This year it has been worse, they only work about half the time, and when they fail, they stay failed for several attempts and then work fine for a while, then dont work for awhile.....

Is the signal relay the culprit?Or should I be looking elsewhere?

If they work right when they do work. I'd check the switch first. It likely needs cleaned and lubed with dielectric grease. Contacts are copper or brass in there and a little tarnish is enough to prevent good contact.

Since the '83 has self cancel a few parts can fail.
Does the signal switch click on and and stay on and no blink?
Could be the flasher, the cheapest part.

It uses a 3 wire flasher which includes a ground connection on a special plug.
A universal 3 wire will work but finding one with the special plug might be a problem unless getting an OEM Honda which is overly priced.
I put spade connectors on the wires and taped off the ground wire running a cheapy 2 wire auto flasher.
I think without the ground you won't get the fast flash if one bulb is burned out though.

I tried to rig up a flasher like that and couldn't get it to do anything. :Awe:
So I ended up ordering the one from Honda. That was a lot of money for a simple flasher. But they work now. Right turn cancels early, but I can live with that if I have to.

I used a regular 3 connector spade headlight connector from autozone and a electronic flasher, works good and very secure
