Yeah here is when we have fopund issues.. But when unknown best option is replace.. like timeing belts.. found out mine were almost new.. but replaced anyway.. and my previous post says DO.. and should have been DO NOT worry just look at where we did things and why and trust your instincts as to issues of do I need to do that or can it wait.. my stator wires still look good and I have not bypassed them.. some would say I am taking a chance others will say.. you maybe want to think about doing it.. It does help but as long as they look good I believe in an if it ain't broke don' mess attitude.. and I am willing to pay the piper on my decision.. so first of all get some throttle therapy... ( a couple of 100 miles or so) .. clear your head.. feel the machine.. and does it run well??? is there loud odd noises?? any hesitation?? does the battery charge properly, is the acid level good?? is the anitfreeze levels good, is it getting real hot?? then make the educated moves to resolve.. otherwise ride man.. we are here regardless to help in making a decision, doing a procedure, or performing maint.. and if someone is close enough.. they may offer time and energy to be there for you.. this is a good place and I guess I went on a bit long..

If theres ANYTHING in this life you can depend on,then it`s a well maintained GL 1100!I would(and have)ride my bike anywhere. It even starts easily and runs well at below freezing temps.Shes never let me down.130,000 km original motor.Uses NO oil and gets great gas mileage. One of if not THE best bike I`ve ever had(some 30 bikes).

well said smokey .....the only thing about these bikes thats hard to deal with is honda abandoning them with no parts or support what a completely discusting company to do such a thing .....

Yeah, I'm seeing more and more discontinued parts from Honda but the good thing is I see is more individuals and companies picking up the ball and making aftermarket parts, some are even better than the original!

I can understand the reasoning business wise why Honda would drop the products either by not enough call for the parts to justify manufacturing costs and by wanting to sell new bikes. Just depends on what their bottom line profit comes from.
I know in the auto industry parts are more profitable than new car sales but even then there's a cutoff point.

Lets face it the demand for Gl1000 and 1100 parts is very small when you look at the motorcycle market in general. Now Harley is a different story, they can supply parts for old Harleys because there are a lot of guys that like them and they will always break down and that makes the parts suppliers very happy.

I paid 500 for my 83 and have only put a couple hundred into it so far and have put 5k miles on it since I got it a few months ago. I’m convinced this bike has 188k on it even though the speedo say 88k. The engine is getting tired but still runs great.

I once had a college professor introduce himself by writing his name on the blackboard and followed his name with BS, MS, PHD.

He explained that the letters meant bull$hit and more$hit piled higher and deeper. His advice on punctuation was throw in a semicolon every fourth or fifth word and that should be enough to satisfy anyone.

I don’t make many posts but I try to read them all.

Joe, in your posts I have found valuable information, wisdom and inspiration.

Keep up the good work bro and I’ll continue to figure them out.

Hey your bike looks just like mine the fastest colour black . the way i look at it is its a 27 year old bike so things are going to happen but they could also happen if it was new . Had mine 6 years now the only major thing ive had to change out where the fork seals . The starter does the same thing on mine when its hot . I just dont let it worry me if its going to happen not much i can do if its beyond my control i dont know when a part is going to say ive had enough and quit so just ride it and enjoy it and when it does go buy the parts and tools and enjoy fixing it and saved yourself some hard earned cash doing it . Ijust spent a year on this and if anything goes wrong with it so what its old
