 I love evening rides, there is going to be a big parade here in San Antonio this weekend. Well, people start setting up early downtown so I rode down Broadway to see them setting up, I guess it was something to do. Beautiful picture perfect night here right now, ok well there are a lot of traffic lights on Broadway and it was pretty empty, peaceful night, Well I noticed there was a bar over to the right and two guy's on Harley Davidson's were riding out next to me on my 1981 Honda Goldwing Interstate with the pretty lights and stereo. Anyway we all come to a red light, and to my surprise they shoot off like it's a race or something when the light changes to green and I just go thru my gears and so there they are at the next right light, I'm sure they are having themselves a good laugh at the old guy on the Honda, so the light turns green and there they go again hauling butt, and they shifted over to the left lane and so here we are coming to another light, Well, GL's guy's I have my bike in tune I have everything functioning proper, I'm not afraid of anything, I just said screw it, I had enough of this crap, I throttled it letting them both know my intentions so it was on, I gotta tell you Ginger and my brother's spirit were happy on this night, I had at least a full car length on both of them before I turned off to the right so I didn't get shot at the next light..But fella's I smoked both those fools, Oh they were making all kinds of noise with there loud ass exhaust systems but I kicked the heck out of them tonight.. Maybe just maybe they will never speak of the man on the white Honda...Ginger did good guy's..My brother passed away a few years ago and this was his bike, and he was one motorcycle riding fool..I did it for him..and to make you guy's smile...I hope you enjoyed my honest to goodness true ..story :Egyptian:

I had a great big smile all the way home...I don't go around racing people on the street I will have you guy's know, but I had enough, they were abusing my pride, I just had to show them what these old wings can do..That front end raised up like a it had some freakin power now..What a rush...Maybe they will remember my eagles eye balls all lite up and they probably read that I had Kansas plates, they could see them fine because I was that far ahead of them..Gaaah man I wish I had my video camera.. but it really happened..I know I made them both really mad..You know what's so funny, I actually like Harley Davidson's..

Wilcoy I can't stop laughing man , it was so cool, Ginger took some name's tonight man ha ha..If I were to die tomorrow I would have died with a great big smile on my face ha ha...That was priceless...I'm sure they were feeling pretty intelligent racing to a another stop light, it's like hurry up and stop..I'll never understand why they like doing that..

:smilie_happy: :smilie_happy: These bikes are geared better than they realize! My brother had a (1200 Sportser?) fairly new. He laughed at my old '82. 3 years ago when I first got it on the road, I had a beat up worn out '81 engine in the bike with carbs that needed serious work. He wanted to go for a ride and pulled the same stunt at every red light! Unfortunately, with the condition the carbs were in at the time, I couldn't pull out real fast without detonation and a lot of smoke (gas was dumping!)

We got up on the highway and he started to pull away when we reached 40 MPH and I had enough. Dropped to second gear and cranked that throttle! 3rd gear was pulling 80 MPH easy and I couldn't see him in my mirrors anymore! :smilie_happy:

By the time I was in 5th...who knows how fast the bike was going (speedo only goes to 80 MPH)!

I had a race with my brother on a rented 1800.
This was when I had the 81 engine with it's stock gears in my 83 together running the smaller 16" rear wheel.

We kept neck and neck up to 80 or so which is as fast as I care to go, he kept going.
These bikes are quick!

I thought you guy's would really enjoy this read...I came home and the wife was standing in the kitchen, I tell her, I did something tonight I probably shouldn't have done but honey I had to do it, She stopped the dishes or what she was doing and turned around and looked at me in concern, I still had this stupid grin on my face I couldn't wipe it off for the life of me, so she's really concerned now, she never see's that look. Well, I told her what happened and she looked at me and gave me a big hug and kiss, then she said, I am so proud of you... See guy's she has been watching me put this bike together piece by piece one day at a time, she has watched the joy I get from changing out my own tires, setting the valves and checking the timing and now the mod. for the alt. she has watch me build a trailer and pull it all over creation, so not only did I make my eldest brother's spirit laugh and proud but my wife sure got a charge out of it..My daughter just giggled a little then she posted it on facebook for her friends..Crazy man...it was a night I won't forget soon..I just hope they don't go tell their buddie's to beat me up if they see my bike riding around town now, They run in packs down here..Ya know, I fear nothing my friends..I really thought the front end was going to come off the ground there for a moment..I won't be doing that anymore.. When we were young teens, we would go down town and race from light to light, my friend had a 1970 Duster with a 340 engine in it all sooped up ect. and that car was quick..so we had lots of fun doing stupid things like that growing up... Now this at 52 years old, I really need to grow up..sometimes though, you gotta do what you gotta do..

I have a question for you guy's, Would you have done the same thing? At that third light? Or would you have just let it go?

Now now....youse guys ain't advocating an illegal activity(street racing), are ya? :moped: :whip:

I would have let it go, but that's just me. I'm pretty secure with my masculinity. I don't need loud pipes and a nazi helmet to measure my - um... inadequacies. :ahem: But I enjoyed reading that you had fun. Thanks :hi:

My way of thinking is "old school". You can't ride it if you can't make it go. When I see these types, my first thought that crosses my mind is I wonder just how much of that bike they actually built theirself? Or what would they do if it was night time and their headlight quit working?

A good point, it looked liked I had at least 20 years on both of them, so I guess we can consider it a spankin,, ha ha....these Gl's are fast but there are so many other bikes so much quicker and I know it..Beside's I hate abusing my bike like that...I never really knew she had that in her..man..I can't get over how the front end just raised up like she said bring you SOB's ...I love Joe drum's discription of his bike Monguel it's a beast...And I thought my brothers 73 900 kawasaki was fast, geez..And my XS-1100 Yamaha...that bike would freakin move too..
