Since buying my 1100 a few weeks ago I've been mostly focused on mechanical stuff. :heat: This last week I worked on touching of all the rust spots on the frame and a bunch of other little cosmetic stuff. :good:

This cover cost 9 bucks at Walmart. It works great! :rocks:

I'm hoping these keep the critters away on those night rides. :whip:

Thanks for the compliment. I don't slide around at all. There is less friction then when sitting on the vinyl seat, but that's part of the beauty of it. You're not sticking to the seat after a half hours riding. I have it secured at two points on each side and of course on the trunk; just enough to keep it from falling off. You definitely feel the "texture" of the beads, but it is not the least bit uncomfortable. It really keeps the sweat to a minimum. Best 9 bucks I've spent in a long time!

I rode 400 + miles on my beads a couple of weeks ago.. you really do not notice the impressions they make.. and I was not "BUTT SORE" after riding.. like I can get at work in the chair.. was back sore because I forgot my Markland backrest at the house.. I did also have a Gel rubber seat pad cushion I used on the first 280 miles (over the beads) and on the last leg of the trip.. but compression shorts do work wonders on long rides..

"farkles" :?: :?: :?:
:smilie_happy:  :smilie_happy:

I've wondered about slidin around on the beads, too. If they work, they work, I suppose. Millions of taxi drivers use them everyday!

See many deer in the road, do ya? :hihihi:

Hey, beats dropping $200 on a different seat! This bike is low budget, you know.

Not yet, let's hope it stays that way.

OH! A "farkle" (to the best of my understanding) is a aftermarket "add-on". Lights, nerf bars, special bags, etc. Very popular term in the adventure riding crowd (BMWs and KLRs). So, my whistles and seat cover kind of fall into the category, but I misinterpreted your initial reply to insinuate that I had overstretched. Glad we're on the same page!

I had no idea! Now I know! :good:
btw...I would never disparage anyone else's additions/mods, and I apologize for the confusion! :hi:

It's just fun to say "Farkle"!....Farkle Farkle Farkle!! Kinda sounds like it could be a name for someone's kid on a '60s TV show! :smilie_happy:

Ok, so I'm liking the beaded seat so far, but it just looks a little too ghetto. So, I had a little time this afternoon and decided to make some modifications.
Here's what it looked like. This photo is a couple of weeks old. I was into the project when I realized I should record it for public consumption. The thing over the headlight has since made it's way into the trash. Too much rust.

First thing I did was mark where the edge of the beads would be. The beads with the marks are one row out from the final edge.

I cut the string further up the cover, pulled back about 12", and then threaded that string towards the center from each side.

Once I had rethreaded the beads sufficiently, the string was knotted, then topped off with a touch of Elmers to prevent it from unraveling.

This is the end result. I think it's a major improvement!

On a side note, if there is someone in the collective that could tell me how to resize the photos (they reside in photobucket) so we don't have to do the horizontal scroll thing, I'd greatly appreciate it. :-D

That looks MUCH better!

The easiest way to make the photos fit better is set your camera to image size 640X480. That size fits most screens pretty good. Your camera is set to 1024x768.

To resize the photos you have, open one photo at a time in Paint. Click "resize", select "pixels". In the boxes below you then type in the new size you want (640 and 480). Paint may auto fill one size or the other to maintain the proper proportions of width and height.

This pic is at 640X480
