1981 GL1100 Innerstate("The Turd")SOLD!!, 1996 GL1500 Innerstate
I decided to clean out one of my buildings today, and look what I founded in there!
Otay...I kinda knew it was in there, but I thunk it was a 400, for some reason. I wuz kinda stunned to see it was a 250. Oh well....
I've had this thing stored since '93....it's in surprisingly good shape. Tinkin aboot gettin it runnin for Mama. The engine is not seized..it still turns easily with the kicker, the rear tire still turns, the trans shifter clicks up/down. The seat is as hard as a rock!
Whaddya tinks?

It's a '72...with no title, but we do have a bill o sale from the Yamama shop.

I don't plan on doing anything with this turd unless/until I can get the title. I do have paperwork from the dealer for title transfer and all. Paperwork shows this thing was taken in to the dealer in 1988! "Check to see why it won't run".... :smilie_happy: We'll check into getting a title before I go any further wid it, for sure.
The boys bought it for $100 in 1991. They got it running long enough to get stopped by the police on it(they were 14 & 15 at the time, and the youngest got killed a couple of months later...), and it has been sitting ever since, outside for a few years(until '94) but covered. It's been covered, and stored inside my building since '96. I figured by now the seat and wiring would have been chewed up by varmits...I did find a 'possum skeleton in there, too. I was quite surprised at the condition, overall. The chrome stuff is still decent...just some minor surface rust in areas, but I tink most of that would polish out otay....at least good enuff for me.
And.....I have no keys. Mama called the boy last nite an asked if he knew where the key may be. "It was in my stuff, in a box". Great...all of his stuff is in the attic...in many boxes....he's been gone since '94, and his stuff is stored all the way at the front of the house in the attic...with years and years of OUR stuff in front of that! I think I'll just take the ignition switch out and have a key made, rather than go treasure huntin in the attic. I'll check fleabay to see if there is a service manual available somewhere. The boy said that the "brushes" in the magneto were burnt, and some smoke had escaped from somewhere.
This won't be a priority resto, if I do decide to play wid it....just seems like it would be better to have it runnin, instead of just sitting there taking up space.

I thought about hollerin at Ron. Gotta get one of the locks out first, tho.
Does anyone know how to ID this turd, as in, what model it is? I haven't found ONE pic of it on the net, but it is very similar to the 250DS7...but not exact. Guess I could look to find a serial # on the engine? There is a serial # listed on the paperwork I have...I'll look at that to see if there are any clues. Just trying to figure what model the dang thing is.....

Not much left of it...the frazzled wiring has worn about 90% of the decal off...I can only read the "Conforms to Motor Vehicle...", and that's about it. I think the serial # will start with the model #, from what I have been reading today. I'll go back out this weekend and pull the dang thing out and see if I can get any more info from the frame/engine stampings. :read:
