A long time ago I saw a Vetter equipped bike that a flexible boot that fit down on the bottom of the fairing and blocked the wind from blasting up the forks into the cockpit. It mounted under the fairing attaching to the bolts and had a canvas filler that attached to the forks with Velcro. There was enough canvas to allow lock to lock fork rotation. I do recall asking the guy and he said the ride was much more quiet with the boot in place. Anyone else ever see one? I would like to have a quieter ride.

That sounds like a custom built item. Never heard of it on Vetter before. Example, my '82 had a Vetter fairing when I got it with a huge windshield. At the time, I assumed that was normal for the bike. Trashed the windshield since it was cracked and yellowed from being outside for 12 years in the weather, but could never find it again. Contacted Craig Vetter and he said that it was not OEM Vetter equipment. Grateful for the reply, but sorry I trashed it now!

Yes Velcro existed back in the '70's. The same time we got flush toilets here in Wisconsin. I am thinking about making my own boot. I think it would make the bike more quiet for me and my passenger. Might not be wonderful on a hot day but we will see.

I have one but there's no canvas on the one I have....it's all black vinyl. It wraps around the fork tubes and attaches with velcro

Hey bib, did you buy it or make it? Any chance you could post a pic? Do you think the bike rides quieter with the boot in?
Thanks

It came with my old BMW when I bought it back in 87. I had it on the bike a few times and really don't remember there being much of a difference. There's a bunch of snow between me and the garage....I'll try to dig it out for a pic as soon as I can.

Welcome to Classics Bib! Snow, hmmm, seems we have had our share of that this winter!

Bib, can you describe the boot you have? It is black vinyl. Does it have holes in it that line up with the 4 mounting studs for the fairing? If the unit attaches around the forks with Velcro is there a lot of extra material down there to allow the forks to swing from lock to lock? PS You Pa boys should come to Wisconsin and we will slow you what snow really looks like. Wisconsin where men are men and women are damn glad of it.

The only thing that holds it on is the velcro where it wraps around the fork tubes. There's extra material that tucks up inside the lower fairing opening. I'll try to get a picture up here sometime today. I'll probably never use it again. I've got a couple of buddies who want the BMW...if I end up rebuilding the engine and keeping it I wont be using the Windjammer (and I already gave away the saddlebags) so it's yours if you want it.

Hey that would be great! I would be happy to pay the shipping. Please let me know, thanks

PM me your address and I'll get out to you as soon as I can (don't think either of us will be riding soon anyway). Shipping shouldn't be but a couple of bucks so I'm not too worried about that. I'm a new classic wing owner so I'd be interested in any wing trinkets (patches, pins, etc) that you might have laying around... LMK

A pic from either of you would be great for the rest of us to take a look at this! :beg:

Sure...I'll get a pic or two before I send it on it's way.....maybe make a tracing too. It's just a flat piece of vinyl w/a bit of Velcro. Maybe I can modify the dimensions to fit my 83 factory fairing while I'm at it.

Bib, what Windjammer do you have?
Windjammer SS.. Polaris Imola Silver in color (BMW)

Here's a pic of the boot (the white stuff on the boot is SNOW! (duh).) It does have a few rough spots but hey, it's down there out of sight anyway!
