As some of you may know I'm a nurse, and today was the kind of day "I" live for. I'll say his name is Mike, a patient of mine...who was t-boned by a cager while riding his Harley. When I met him he was in ICU on a ventilator, and written off by his doctors. Now I give all my patients 110%, but this guy was going to get 150% I payed special attention to his arms and legs by providing excellent range of motion exercises. you see I just knew this gut was still in there somewhere, and that he would need those arms and legs again. I am an eternal optimist at times and this was one of them. Any way, Mike had progressed to the point that he came off the ventilator and had been moved out of ICU. Today I went in to range his limbs and all was normal until when I picked up his left hand, and he looked at me. This wasn't that abnormal because those in a vegetative state will track you with there eyes simply because you walk in front of them, a simple reaction to stimuli. However this time it felt like he was looking through my eyes right into my soul....

I squeezed his hand and with my face inches from his I said "Mike! I know your in there, say something, Mike! are you in there!?! ....and he said
"yes"

It's so ******* cool...it's why we do it. In under 5 minutes I had almost every staff member in his room, about that time his wife walked in with a terrified look on her face because of the crowd. I put her hand in his and asked Mike are you in there? and he said "yes" again.

Well I'm crying again but I just had to share this, we are going to get this man's life back....you just watch us!

~O~

Great job Randy! :yahoo: :yahoo:

For all of those thankless hours of hard work, those times when staying past your time for report, coming in early for report or covering for a colleague.....yeah, your due dilligence has paid off for Mike and his family! My hat is off to you! :hi:

Thass so kewl! Made my day too! Thanks for sharing, O-Man! :music:

That's awesome ~O~!!
I bet that experience has refreshed why you became a nurse in the first place!!

I've been in the hospital a few times, nurses aren't appreciated enough for all they do.
Well done bro!.

In order for anything to happen you have to believe. If you don't believe there is no spiritual power present at all. Mike hooked up on your belief and forgot about his doctors unbelief and began to respond. You definitely have a gift... Thanks for sharing with us..

~O~ what a fantastic story and the most encruaging part of the story is how the one who spent the time with this man to bring him back ... iknow when i was sick it was more the opposite that you discribed iwas was compleltly out of head i guess delirious with round the clock fevers and when people would talk in front of me when they thought i was completly out of my head i could tell the ones that were concerned about me or the ones who were just making there day .....

i think maybe this man striped of everything could see more than you give him credit for .....it always made me sick and defiant when somebody came around who could care less ....this included docs and nurses ....but to the credit of nurses they were the ones who cared the most and worked the hardest on my behaf

when i down for count some nurses work aggressively to try and keep me from from giving in or giving up they taught me that i could endure the pain if i just fight harder than anything ive ever done .....i wont go on and on but nurses and cnas help me a lot .......and i still carry this to this day and i married a nurse

i have the upmost for people like you and my wife as the knowledge ive gained from this ordeal makes me know that people like you and my wife are the hands of god even if you dont think so or if you do .....it makes no difference to god he loves you and uses your hands and heart to care for people ....

this knowledge only comes to someone like me only when your striped of everything you ever known or thougt .....and to this point i was blessed as it change my life to someone i never was before and ive had three more kids to my tribe and a life full of joy .....you will proably never know the full impact that your life has on others no matter how hard people will try to tell you.... :thanks: :hi: :eek:k:  :good: :thanks: :hi:

When i was there and the Dr. said that word "THE BIG ONE" I was unable to accept that and just gave it to God, then i knew that it diden't matter what the Dr. said,I knew i was ok.....even as i heard others around me crying i wanted to tell them i would be fine.....I did First Aid at motorcycle races for almost twenty years and was always told to talk to the victum as if he were totaly concience ....Now i know why..that is what you did and that kept the thread intact between here and there... thank God he was with you........

:eek:k: :eek:k: Congrats ~O~ man. It's not often that as nurses we see those fruits come back like that. Not that we don't try, but even when we give our all, when some here the doc say "That's all I can do" or something to that affect, they give up no matter what the other people around them try.
