A neighbour of mine had bought a set of Paughco universal slip-on tapered mufflers for his 1982 GL1100. Sadly before he got to use them he had an accident at work and lost the use of his left arm so no longer rides. He has every piece of chrome and lighting ever made on this bike, it actually looks pretty cool going down the street at night! Anyway, he never even took the mufflers out of the box and heard about my build and came over to see if I was interestd in buying the mufflers. Now I have seen some pics of bikes with the Harley mufflers, all different styles, and I could use a new set. My pipes are in great shape but my mufflers have seen better days. So, being a newbie and doing this build by the seat of my greasy pants and help from you guys, should I go with the Harley mufflers or try to find another set specifically for Honda (Jardines)? He told me I would need to do a little modifications but nothing I and my buddy couldn't handle. What are the opinions or general consensious about this idea. By the way, the Jardine turn downs which is what I would want if I had to go Honda aftermarket are hard to find around here and usually you have to get the entire exhaust system-$600 plus shipping, my neighbour is selling these to me for $200 ($85 below his cost to buy them), and the only time they have been out of the box is to look at them. By the way, it is about 20 degrees below zero here (thats about 10 degrees for the americans), and my buddy and I were going down the street when we passed some nutso on an old Yamaha 650. Next thing you know, the nutso caught back up to us and started waving-it was one of our other neighbours that lives behind us, we laughed our ***** off! He is still in his early thirties so doesn't have all the aches and pains that we geezers in our 50's do yet, it was nice to see a real die hard going at it though. Have a great day all! Thans-Ryan.

Not sure how the Paughco universal slip-ons sound. There have been a lot who have used the Harley slip ons. I had Jardine turn down exhaust and ended cutting the turn downs off so that the sound went straight back. The exhaust noise would reverberate off of the street right back up into my ears!

I sold them and got a very good set of used OEM exhaust from a Member and wouldn't trade them for anything! BUT, I like my exhaust quiet!

sounds like a good deal to me ... i have some slip on turn downs on my bike ... they were made to fit the early yrs headers... i used 79yr headers instead and they angle up and out some and are totally out of the way in rear axle access ... that was a plus and i like the look

I think jardins have a better sound than Harley mufflers. Personal opinion but I too like quiet like stock.
Yeah I'm getting to be an old fart too so I'm liking more quiet and comfy.
In my younger days I would have been your neighbor dude.

Thanks guys, I know I can always come here for good advice. My main worry was the pressure being different but baffles can alwways be changed if needed-right? They look great and the price is right so I think I will give it a shot. Like I said I will also be poting some pics soon but we got hit with the damn arctic air for a week now and everyone is hunkering down. It was -14 last night, that kept me in. I mean the garage is warm but it's that quick jog from the house to the garage that makes one procrastenate. They say we are going to have this arctic crap all February so I am going out to the garage today no matter what. If you never hear from me again it means I probably tripped and froze to death which only takes about 15 mins in this crap, OH CANADA, OUR HOME AND FREEZING LAND!!!!!
