My first Goldwing

It's as big as my truck

Started looking for a GL1000. Ended up trading $1700 for a running, somewhat ready to ride 1982 GL1100i. My truck did NOT handle well on the way home. :salute:

Have you caught any of the threads where we mention removing the factory stator plug? They short out the stator when they fail. Look under the left side cover and look for a plug with 3 yellow wires to the left of the battery. Some of us have caught them just before they failed saving us an engine removal repair. :yes:

Well that search turned up quite a bit. How do I know if mine has been replaced already and how often does it need replacing? My bike has 80,000m. Could it have made it this far on the original plug?

The plug will be gone with each of the yellow wires soldered separately to it's mate. If it's still there you should make this modification regardless of the plug's condition. Mine was brown(white when new) and days away from failing.

The mud flaps were gone within 10 minutes of unloading :good:

(and yes, that is a magnetic parts dish holding the glove box closed. works like a charm)

Looks like that mud flat was welded to the fender, I didn't realise that my vote meant you had to take the whole lot off :smilie_happy:

Hmmmmm...mud flaps - no, fenders- yes! Too messy without 'em. Just my humble opinion...

Flap on the front fender can save a rear tire from a nail or something the front tire hits first then doesn't get tossed out of the way or dropped in time for it to lay flat before the rear hits it. Otherwise, mud flaps? heh yuk.

Nice tip on the electrical. I assume this is also true for a 83? I may have to look at mine tomorrow.
