so, i dont have a speedometer on this bike, though i would like to, mainly so i can determin what speed im going when i go past 50 MPH, im really good at determining my speed under that though. but i would like to get on to kind of match my tachometer that is on the bike right now. i more so want one because i need to know my miles for work (since i ride for work mostly)

I'm thinking of going with one off a CB750, a little ugly, but in my price range for now. but since i didnt get a speedometer with a odometer on it, is there a way to set those back to zero?

I have an Speedometer off an 80. As for rolling the numbers, yes you can but it is illegal. Many years ago I worked a short time for an auto dealer, we rolled the speedometer on every car that got traded in and the new cars, we just disconnected the speedometers on those that the sales staff used. It didn't take me long to realize I didn't want to work for a auto dealer.

why is it illegal to role them back? its not my original speedometer, and the bike doesnt have one right now, so i dont see why it would be a problem. but anyways, could you send me a pic or two of your speedometer, and how much would you want for it?

I'll take a picture tonight, pay the shipping on it and it is yours. Do you need the all the mounting hardware or do you already have it. I have an 80 that I'm parting out, I got it for free so I'm not looking to make money off it. It does have a brand new set of tires that I will sell is anyone is interested.
I understand your point regarding rolling the speedometer and I don't know how the law would look at it considering the age of our bikes and the actual miles is unknown. I just know guys that got caught rolling back speedometers got in serious trouble.

I wouldn't think twice about rolling one back.
Heck there's good chance the speedo on mine isn't original anyway so what's the diff.

If ever there was a question, the answer would be "it's not original".

Now talking a dealer rolling it back or rolling it back to make it more appealing for a sale, that I can see being illegal. But rolling a replacement back to match the old, I would do it.

Normally when you wind back the speedo it is obvious because the digits never seem to be in line properly. I would recommend a second hand one that is close to your original? mileage.

That is true if you roll each digit, but if you wind it back they line up just fine. I'm being told the computer guys have now figured out a way to reset the digital ones that are controlled by the ECM or VCM.

Could put a 2 to 1 ratio box in then you could go 160mph :smilie_happy:

as much of a thrill as it is to see how fast you can go before the pigs get ya, im more of the steady scenery ride type guy that you pass through the mountains.

Well when it winds back around to zero you will be doing well over 100. Don't think this speedometer would work in Texas, I don't think anyone there goes below 90 on the interstates.

Thanks for your help, but i think i actually just decided to go with a little universal speedo that would blend with the chrome. and when i say little....i mean little, its 2x2in, will be perfect for mounting onto the handlebars and the gauge reads up to 140mph.
