I have a 83' GL1100, I have a new Clutch Cable, But the adjustment is at the end of the adjustment at both the engine and the hand lever.

At the Engine Bracket, I was thinking of Raising the location where the Bracket adjustment holds the cable, changing where the bracket hold's the cable about a 1/2" - 1" higher or so should put my adjustment back into the middle at both adjustments and room for stretch wear adjustment to the new cable.

I wanted to look at the GL1000 Clutch Brackets (Engine adjustment clutch Bracket) to see if it is higher than the GL1100.

If not I will go to my cycle salvage and get another GL1100 and drill another hole in the stock bracket to raise it up then weld a new section lower for the lower mounting hole

it seems to me that the bracket could be moded easy to cable ...but id say the cable you got was for 80-81 ...i think there different ...they have to be .....there is no clut adjustment on 82 -83 yrs so adjusting where the cable hight is it ...go for it

Thanks Joe
Thanks Dan

I appreciate your help,

I may have the wrong cable, I bought it locally but, They may have not picked the right year bike.

I just went on to Dennis kirk web site, they have sheath length and OAL.

I just ran the p/n my cable is for a 80'-81' and it is 6" tooo long no wonder it was out of adjustment.

thanks guys for your help.

Just to verify then I guess:

Should just be a 1/4 to 1/2" play at the lever but I adjust mine where it feels good to me using it.

Hey Thanks Dan,

I really appreciate you pulling that clutch cable to verify the measurement for me.

I am going to buy the shorter & Correct length for my 83' GL11 Clutch cable a Parts Unlimited p/n#K28-5547
Housing Length 58 1/2 in.
Overall Length 63 in.
Type Cable - Clutch
Fits 1982' & 1983'

I have the Part Unlimited clutch cable for a 1980-81' p/n K28-5548 it is 4"-6" too long for a 83'
80-81' cable specs
Housing Length 62 in.
Overall Length 69 in.
Type Cable - Clutch
Fits 80'-81'

I have No affiliation with Parts Unlimited

I bought a cable once for my CX and it too was too long giving me the impression that my clutch needed renewing. I shortened it a half inch and the clutch worked perfect and still had ample adjustment for those days when heat expansion gave me problems.

It is possible that the "new" cable you bought was incorrectly manufactured and actually had the wrong inner cable length

Just a thought - hope it helps.

Ok received the New correct year Clutch cable, and it is much smoother, and the return is way better.

The Cable i had on there was for a 80'-81' GL11, it was 6" too long.

This New Cable had to be routed completely different to make it work, and it is much smoother and a lighter pull, it has a better feel, and it returns better too , with more of a snap back.

Still not a Light as my 86' hyd. Clutch is, But i didn't really expect it to.
