Greetings all!

New member here but long time winger and longer time biker.

Current wing ride is a '77 Gl1000 pulling a Velorex 562 sidecar. The wing is far from stock with a leading link front end, Randakk dual Weber carbs, and on and on and on.

Just wanted to stop by and say hello.

Hey Alp! Welcome aboard. Sounds like you've built a nice bike. I'd love to hear more about it. :moped:

This project kind of spiraled out of control for me. It all started with a carb rebuild...

Anyway, I'm fairly pleased with her at this point. Still some nagging issues I'd like to get fully sorted out, but that's why I haunt these boards! Truthfully, I'm not much of a mechanic and I really stink at troubleshooting. I just don't know when a project is over my head!

Possible future plans include an auxillary fuel tank behind the seat in the sidecar, external alternator (need more juice!), and HID headlight. Should probably do something to muffle the intake roar from the Webers, but I kind-of like it!

I've given up going darkside (for now) as I just don't have the clearance I need back there. Sure would be nice though...

Thanks for the welcome!

Welcome to the CGW Forums, transalpian!!! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

I'll post some pics once I hit my magic 5th post. I started a build thread on advrider, but kind of lost enthusiam for keeping pics updated. I try to avoid going to advrider any more. Too much temptation to quit my job, buy a GS, and take a RTW tour. I really admire those who do, however.

well ..im syill thinking about darkside some ....you can buy 4" rims to lace on a 1000 ...well 1100 are rough too ...i do have a 79 thats got 6 1/4" clearence in the 83 swingarm that has been moded to the 79 frame,,,,
your bike sounds neat cant wait for pics and welcome to classic

Thanks again for the warm welcome.

Darkside would have huge advanges for me since the rig is 100% hack. But the clearances are really tight so tire selection will be an issue, even if I get a custom wheel laced up. I haven't abandoned the project, but its on the back burner.

They used to have pretty narrow tires for VW bugs.

True that. I had a set on the front end of a '36 Ford streetrod in the distant past.

On another subject, I'm still being told no URL postings (pics) before the 5th post. This is post 6. What do I need to do to get cleared?

Once you have your 5th post, you'll automatically be able to post links/pics, and get into the tech gallery. Congrats...you've passed this test! :smilie_happy: :good:

Thinking more about the external alternator mod, it looks like someone put a carb in the way! Oh well, always other things to do, like finish the front fender. It's been in the current "temporary fix" mode for 8 months now.

I also just picked up a cheap seat from ebay. It's a gamble, but the price was right. I looks to have less of a "horn". I like the look of Corbin seat, it's really well made and in great shape. Even the blue welting matches the pin stripes on the bike and sidecar! It just doesn't fit me the way I really want.

My ultimate plan is to have a Russell Day-Long saddle made, but (like all things) I need to sneak up on it.

Thanks again for the warm welcome.
