BAAAAAAD!!! Not a drop of rain here for over a month, and we're at 40 straight days of over 105 degree temps....

That is a desert.

My Vetter trunk was a rain gauge the other night. 1/2" of rain in the bottom. This was with the lid locked. Weather has been strange since Japans tsunami.
 
I read once that any size container can be a rain gauge. Guess the idea is a large container would catch more drops, small container less drops. Makes sense.
