1987 CBR1000f “The Pig”
1991 CBR1000f Red
Finally decided to replace the front Shinko A230 on the Rats Nest. Unfortunately by the time I had decide to change it the rear on Red ( 91 CBR1000f) was cactus as well.
I had purchased a new set of tires for my 92 CBR project which were fitted up to its black wheels. I could purchase a new rear Metzler for $270 or a set of Continetals for $320 but as the front Metzler still looks new I decided to remove the new tire off the black rim and refit it to the Gold wheel off Red. I was lucky to have access to a tire machine at a mates motorcycle repair business so I was able to do this job using his machine. He would only of charged me $20 to do this for me but as it was a Friday and he was really busy I did the job under his tutelage.

I can't speak for Tony, but I have about 5,500 miles on my rear tire and expect to get another 1,000 mile out of it yet before the tread is done. The tires I bought last night cost me $75 for the rear and the front another $61. The front that is on the bike still has another 6,000 miles left on it for sure so I have an extra tire, just in case.

Hopefully get some miles out of those metzlers, good to save some cash those are some steep tire prices, time for a tire revolt down under

How many miles have you gotten out of the Shinko?
I think about 11k on the front and 6k on the rear.

I know the mileage out of tires is VERY dependent on how one drives, but presume you 'corner' a lot that's not bad, about what I get out of Dunlops, nut less $$. I did wear out a front once a lot faster (5k) but that was about 2500 miles in the Rockys one up and having a blast, just slid the tread right off

Tony please remind me why you don't like Bridgestone S11's? Also, did ya put beads I the new ones?

To all the Metzeler's guys are you running t the ME880s?

S11s are not really suited to the CBRs. No beads as wheel weights are used and weren't changed as the new rear spun up on the hand balancer fine. If you are referring to the Rats Nest the Shinko A230 110/90 x 19 cost me $120 aud fitted with a rr of $150. Bridgestone would of been $220 plus ( same as Metzler) and I can't fault the performance of the Shinkos. As for twisties most of you know that is pretty much the majority of my riding, the front has been to Zion, Ouray, Black Hills ( including a very fast run down the western side to WY), Yosemite and finally back down the PCH (4200 miles in 6 1/2 days). Then there are my local haunts, the goat track, Boonah, Rathdowney and Numinbah Valley. As my mate said when he was behind the Rats Nest on his $24k aud Aprilla Caponord he needed welding goggles for all the Sparks coming off the Rats Nest in the corners :moped: :good:
