First off - welcome from Southern California!

Yup - 3 wires from the stator are all yellow, and the connection near the battery gets corroded, heats up and melts the plastic connector. They can be cut, spliced and soldered for a permanent repair.

There are several threads here on how to check a stator. They rarely go completely bad, but you never know. The regulator would be the next item to check.

Thanks for all the good advise...I appreciate it.... Thank You...
After checking my alternator output, I find that I didn't have a problem after-all... It was charging 14 volts, but my amp gauge was reading less than 12... Apparently the battery had lost some charge.. I should ride it more....
Had a good ride today, about 180 mi. and my tail bone is tender, but the amp meter is now reading about 14 volts... Hot dammm
Thanks again...
Also, thinking of selling the ole girl.. 83 Aspencade, 38,000 mi, ex cond, all oem...

Thank you Brian.... I've been debating on doing that, but didn't want to take away from the originality of the bike.. Ah, so be it..
Is this a great site or what ??

If it's 100% original and as nice a shape as it sounds, I'd fill the plug with dielectric grease and keep it.
Welcome from Oz. +1 on retaining the plug. When they fail I just install new plugs and solder the crimps to the wires for better connections...
