I had to take a head off to replace a bent valve. I bought a valve on Ebay guessing it was the intake that was bad (no compression) and I seem to have gotten the right one. During teardown, broke a bolt off in the head. Tried to weld a nut to the stud but it didn't work, back to the drawing board :read: Then I spotted the timing sprocket shape and thought the engine was a pre-1983, kinda freaked me out. But the numbers check out ok so they must have been using up old parts.
Made myself a valve spring compressor and IT WORKED! woohoo! Now I have to get some lapping compound and a stick to spin the valve. Hope
I don't mess up.
engine number is SC02E-2312846

My other '83 is a standard and it has the round holes in the timing gears (sprockets?). These two bikes must straddle the changeover.
So....what should I do about the busted off bolt? Machine shop ($$$) easy out, drill it out and put in a Heli-coil?
any suggestions would be welcome.

all in fun...I hope.

Use a reverse twist drill centered as best you can then a bit larger and larger reverse twist. that usually breaks the threads free.
