I need a bit of consensus of opinion here, I want to remove all the old and decrepit nut's bolts and fittings to the GL1000. Now I like the idea of Gold but bit expensive even though Gold Plate Allen key head bolts do exist and the aren't a bad price but more expensive than the trusty ole Stainless Steel variants as kits for the wing.

Now there is a concern that there may be a galvanic reaction to using SS bolts in the ally castings. Would anyone like to give me their opinion or just fit and leave it to rot the Ally castings away (how long to failure) should think it would take years, what do you guy's do, use an insulator like "Alumilastic" or something else.

Ian :thanks:

I always use Neversieze ( Nickel only) or Duralac to prevent the alloy and stainless growing together wen combining the two.

I dont know but stainless does some weird stuff when screwed into aluminium

Lots of comment, I ask as I have seen 316 Stainless steel screws dissolving inside of 9 months when screwed into a wooden mast (our old yacht) I know that on land the situation is a lot different to the sea but aluminum and stainless hate each other with a vengeance from a galvanic standpoint Just wanted to fish out s this a good move the quality of Japanese (Honda) fastenings leaves a lot to be desired. Neversieze ( Nickel only) or Duralac seems the way to isolate the two metals. So as it is made in the UK Duralac gets my vote thanks again guy's. Ian

:thanks:
