OK so Saturday I took Stella out for a 20 minuite ride to warm up the oil came home let her cool for 20 minuites or so.
Drained the oil and removed the filter pulled out the filter, spring and center bolt.
Did you catch the fact that I did not say anything about the washer between the filter and the spring that's because it was not there.
I guess the P.O. figured it was something that was not really needed. :sensored:
Now I have to drive 30 miles each way 60 miles round trip 3 gallons of gas $12.00 for a $3.00 washer.
Ok I'm done now.

I doubt that the po made the conscious decision to leave the washer out. The washer has a tendency to stick to the filter and get thrown away if you haven't changed the filter before and know about it. I would guess that there are a lot of Goldwings running around without that washer. I would have put it back together without the washer and used it as excuse to go on a 60 mile ride.

Mine was missing the first time I changed, too. I wouldn't have known, if not for you guys.

Does the washer make a big difference? I cant recall if I have one or not

Yeah I think the inclusion of the washer acts to also put the proper tension on the filter seat.

I just used one that was the same thickness as a replacement.
I think we had a post here of the dimension.

I am sure the P.O. did not leave it out on purpose but I was upset to think of riding the cage all the way down to the big city to get a 3 or 4 dollar washer.
I called them when they opened and asked them to be sure they had one because I did not want to go all the way and find out someone made a mistake witth their inventory and he told me "the only reason for the washer was to protect the filter from the spring any washer will work" .
So I took a piece of metal and made one that fit over the bolt and the same o.d. as the rubber on the filter.
So Stella has new oil and filter a alt. and new plugs.
Took her out for a ride and she feels good a little slow at first takeoff maybe a carb. sync is in her future.

I can never sell my bike, I just don't want to be one of those "PO's."

So that's why I can't bring myself to sell one. I knew there was some underlying psychological reason all these bikes keep piling up.

Those washers do tend to stick to the filter and my guess is when changing the oil on any old Honda with this type filter there is a 30% chance of a ride to the dealer or two hours looking through boxes of washers and bolts only to not have one that will fit.
