has anyone with an 1100 wing used a poorboy kit on it? does any mods need to be done to use the kit on an 1100 wing

Whats a poorboy kit? far as I know he sends a 2 inch pully with a bracket. The one I seen discharges the battery when idling I would rather have Beav's Pully and make my own braket

There's a whole topic under alternators that will be of great help, espically for an 1100. Besides the Original PoorBoy was designed for a 1200. I just put a PoorBoy copycat one for an 1100 on my bike. A little fabrication, not that hard and well worth the conversion :music: !!Later :music3: Bob

I think he's including a larger crank pulley now but double check with him.
I have no idea what he includes in his kit now but the fabrication needed to mount the alternator on an 1100 is pretty straight forward. The biggest problem is the radiator clearance.

For no more than what you need and feel you can get by with a 3.5" size pulley, Don might sell you just the pulley like he did for me  ! Besides you will have to fab a bracket for the 1100, way different than the 1200. Later :fishin:

Heeeeeyy I am not a ring leader..ha ha I am also out of pullies, I don't know if Don's pullies are cut with a keyway in them like ours is but I find that to be a comfort to me and they are 4"....View attachment 1

Ring Leader :smilie_happy: You are right Little beav, Don's don't have the key way. Is your friend going to make any more? That would be great if he is. It's just nice to have different oppitions to choose from!! :thank_you: :hi: Bob

Yes he will make some more, I think he did a fine job at it.. Gotta have 5 takers first though... Joe Drum is the ring leader, I learned everything I know from him,,, aaaah

Ya no keyway, I wouldnt be too comfortable with that - has he started providing bigger pulleys now? Last I heard him say was 2 inches was big enough. I've only seen one and it wasn't pretty!

Here the one I recieved,....3.5" to a 1.75alt pulley,......3 to 1 :Egyptian: 13.8 at idle fulley charged :music3: !! Have a nice day!!! Later  Bob

Forgot to say,....Yea, No key way, but lock-tite and she's still spining pretty!!! :music2: :music: :hi: Bob

There's nothing wrong with that...It looks alot like the one I made with the sockets....I just sold the last one I had [v-belt] to a fella in Canada [82a] so I have no more

That's a good looking pulley.
I think the holes are unnecessary but it looks cool.

Imma guessin that, along with the aesthetics, the holes also lighten the weight of the pulley, which should be a good thing, considering it's hangin off the front of the crank.
Which brings me to a question.....how does installing a pulley like this on the front of the crank effect the engine balance? I ax because, not only are you adding some slight side loading to the front of the crank, your also adding weight that is apparently not balanced to/for the crank.
Does it make any difference?
Does it create any excessive/unusual wear on the front crank bearing?
Might be the wrong thread to ask, but I been following it, and had these questions in me pea-brained haid.... :headscratch:

Well I run a steel pulley which is probably 3 times the weight of the aluminum one beav had made, even at the weight of the steel I don't see any problem with bearing load since it's spinning. The way I figger it the pulley weight is similar to adding weight to a crank flywheel and since they have been made on a CNC machine and lathe they'd be balanced.
On the other hand the side load could increase wear on the main bearing but I think it's such a small amount it's really not a concern, for me anyway but I would be concerned if after drilling holes into it whether or not it was balanced properly because that could easily throw it off balance which would accelerate bearing wear.

I think you are over thinking and worried about nothing.
