i think you mean CDI. but a '79 does'nt have one. start at the beginning and tell us what happens when you turn the key to the start position

o.k. now we are getting someplace. do you know the brand of the elec. ign? most had a fuse in the hot lead to the system. not in the normal fuse holder. also some got there power off of the turn signal hot lead. do the turn sygnals work?

thanks i sure do like evryoone. how has replyd and i hope i can return the favors at some time. knoxville had the honda whoot this year .and there were hundreds of bikes. it's cool to see that many at one time. hope to meet alot of the members in the future.on the road sometime. ttfn bill

there are a lot of dyna III systems out there. someone should come up with a wiring diagram. then you can just trace and ck when you get the time. does your system have a black box with silver fins, might be mounted on a down tube on the left side. the wires from the ign. on the end of the left side head should go to it. out of that box are wires going to the coils and to ground and to a hot source. if this is the system you have, the red wire into the box should be 12v pos. the black (coming out) to ground. i think yellow and blue go to the coils. don't have one in front of me, working off of memory. not always the smart thing to do in my case. hopefully someone will come along with a picture and prove me right or wrong

right now it is just hanging there.it is a little oval shape, with 2red,2black,1yellow,1 white and 1blue.the fellow i got it from had it disconected but put it back and said that was the way it was when he took it off.said he had someone check it.and they said it was bad. i still don't know.

that could all be true. i would contact dyna, and they probably ask you to send it to them. if it is bad, they have been known to give you a replacement at a very discounted price

i did have a black box go bad once. when the bike warmed up, it would die. but if you let it cool a bit, it would run. until it got warm again. i replaced the system....should have called dyna

I'm sure you'll have much better luck with the wing by far.
