Be sure and rig up some kind of filter on the auxiliary fuel tank, maybe might have to pull them..I would pull them anyhow and prevent any future trouble, re use what you can, the external tank will tell you if the center plenum seal leaks, if not then that is one less thing to worry about. I would at least clean it out and put new float needles and bowl gaskets..the old float needles aren't made for the alcohol they add to the current fuels, perhaps anything rubber inside the carbs and a good cleanout with air, clean the slides and vacuum caps, polish them and the manifolds while apart, then while off touch up the engine paint and polish the valve covers...check out sunnbobb`s polishing he does good work if your not up to it.

Regardless what ignition you choose I'd wire in a relay operated by the bike wiring and run a fresh feed wire through the relay to power the ignition. With so few miles most of it should be okay internally. You will need to change out all the fluids. Personally I'd go for a single solex instead of trying to bring the stock carbs up to standard for use with todays crapo fuel.

Duly noted, thanks.
It has had some old electronic ignition conversion kit by Prestolite that the P.O. said could be bad.

Believe me depending on what I find when I do a real test fire, I may go with a single carb conversion on this bike.

One issue at a time. The list is growing.

only the back really. pull the seat and rear wheel and fender. unmount the rear master cylinder and remove the battery box and then you can remove the tank.

Edit don't forget the fuel valve.

Did tanks in my 1200's several years ago with acid, & they still look great. :good: Keep tank full of treated high test, & stays unchanged as far as rust issues, & carbs run great. Not as easy as it used to be as far as fuel goes, but still possible to keep things working well, even with the **** gas our leaders seem to think we need. :headscratch:

That's the color of the fumes that come belching out of the tank when the acid hits rust. :smilie_happy: Wear a GOOD air filtering mask, those fumes are NASTY!!! :thank_you:
