Wondering if I could get some help from the collective....
I wired up the radio that came with my GL1100's Vetter fairing and could barely hear anything, even with the volume turned all the way up. So, I pulled the radio unit and took out the speakers. Here's a picture of one of them. The other is in similar condition. My question is: do you think I should replace them?

Ya'll have a great day! :good:

Electrical tape and they will be just like new!!! :smilie_happy:

On my Vetter, I replaced them with 4" Infinity speakers from Best Buy.

That looks sweet! :music: I bought a new set of speakers from Walmart for $24. Cut out all the old butt connectors and junk behind the radio and soldered everything back together. Sounds great! :rocks: :music2: :fiddle:

I kept the original screens. Wanted to keep the retro look.

Nice job! :clapping:

Was the foam still in there behind the old speakers when you took them out?

There was not. :nea: Was there supposed to be? :headscratch:

In the Vetter sound system, there was foam padding that goes behind the radio and behind the speakers. It helped with shock absorbtion and it helps the speakers build some deeper bass. When I opened mine for the first time, my speakers looked exactly the same, but the foam was still in there on top of the radio, behind the radio and behind the speakers. It looks like a custom foam piece made for this setup. I can check with Carol Vetter to see if it was part of their original design.

That makes sense. I've got some foam lying around that would work. I must say I'm not too impressed with the sound so far. The foam couldn't hurt!

When I rebuilt my Vetter sound system, I installed a new Sony Marine grade AM/FM/CD/iPod 100 watt unit with the Infinity speakers from Best Buy that were really good speakers. I can hear my unit clearly with good quality at 75 MPH! The original radio wasn't exactly top grade and if the condition of the speakers are any indicator, the radio might not be far behind.

I'm gunna some how save this reply so I can just 'cut & paste' it every time we do sound systems :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy:

Mate, Friend, Buddy, Pal the only way you gunna get good sound out of your Wing is if you take a 3/4 inch steel bar and hammer it all the way thru the center of your muffler's :smilie_happy: :music: :music2: :salute: :good: :music3:  :rocks:  :yahoo: :smilie_happy:
