I just made an expensive purchase because I don't want air shocks anymore.. I was just wondering if anyone else uses the progressive 412 series[$236.00 with shipping] on their Goldwing Classic motorcycle..If so how do you like them compared to the stock air shocks...Thanks in advance ...

i have them on my 1200 wing but i'm going back to air shocks as soon as i get someone to r&r my compressor
So I'm left to wonder here, Why?? ... are you not happy with them or what's wrong with them.. are they weak?

Through the winter my 80 Goldwing sit in the Garage , I started it about once a month and let it run a little . BUT never rode it any, when spring got here I noticed what I thought was a little Brake Fluid in my front tire , BUT it was Front Fork Oil , all the air had leaked out of it over the winter , and the Oil was bypassing the Seals I guess.... sooooo I put some Air in the forks , it raised right up , and we went for a ride..... before we got home it was back all the way down , rode like $hit , and bottoming out . So , I'm thinking about changing mine to NO Air too . so , does the single spring do it ???? or can I just build up the springs I have ???

dans right the progressives need no air ...iwould check your parts bike it might have them maybe sledge...the honda springs suck especialy on the 80-81 models and 82s too only the 83s have better springs but there no where near as good as the progressives....you could try replaceing the small spring in the forks with a couple good strong valve springs ...i did this on my 1000 and had some effect but not enough for me tho....its hard to get around the fact that the honda springs in the early 1100s suck...

sounds like you just need to get you some new fork seals for the front..Or Or new progressives...

Thanks everybody ....... I'll check the Parts bike first ...and if not , I have a friend close by with some 1100 parts . thanks again guys.

I got my new shocks in last thursday and put them on the cycle Saturday, I was going to remove the rear wheel to have a look at the grease but I forgot all about it and just installed the new shocks, Well these new shocks the [412's] make the bike a little taller than the old air shocks even at the 57psi limit.. Still it's taller and I noticed it right away, once I placed the cycle on it's sidestand I couldn't help but to notice that it had more lean to it, so guess what? It's so much easier now to place it on it's centerside being taller..Wow cool...So I took it out for a ride and I was amazed at the difference in the ride, it's much more firm now especially in curves and turns...I set the shocks on the #3 setting one less than max..Ok, before I had a slight shake when decellerating at times , usually at slow speeds under 30mph's but really not to bad, many of us find that this is a steering issue or a bearing in the neck loose or worn, and even the swingarm bearings, I have checked all of those plus I balance my own wheels so I know it wasn't that, so the slight shake is now gone, totally gone.. it's really smooth now...I'm guessing the springs in the shocks were worn out pretty well... So I am really happy with this purchase so far, I have not tested it with a passenger yet, nor with the trailer, but just by the feel of it I'm sure it will be perfect..Here's the best thing I like, No more checking that darn air valve for pressure..So that's the scoop, would I recommend these to another Wing rider in a Heartbeat..

Go with Progressive springs in the front.
They need no air.
Price is under $100 for both front.
Dan what is the number for the front springs, I will be willing to eat less taco's so I can afford the front springs.. :Egyptian: :smilie_happy: Is there anything special I need to know before I change them out.. Are the progressive spring made for my 81?

Nothing special needs to be done, just take out the old springs and drop in the new.

I think I'll order me some new fork seals ........and change mine to Progressive springs, it has never sit up enough for me really . and seems to wallow bad in the turns if I'm breaking . and I'm always afraid it's gonna drag , and put me off the road.
