I am coming up with a way you can raise your bike without a lift, all we really need is about 10" higher anyway to work on it with ease, I'm talking about framing some platforms, breakway platforms, ride your bike right on up and breakaway two sides and a ramp... The idea is to have a good a solid base so you can put your bike on the center stand then breakaway the sides and ramp..

Nice beav, I like it!
Simple and effective.
Just like me...ha ha :smilie_happy: guy's on another site are going up way too high for me ..I like my stool on wheels..

I plan on putting removable legs on the extra platforms for tables in the garage.. same with the center platform when not in use..maybe clamp some welder clamps to them, or screws..

Ohhhhhhhhh, I like it ........good idea . :music:
hey sledge, I have hidden hydraulic wheels that come down and you can roll it around the shop... nooo not really..ha ha just kidding this will make washing my rim's a lot easier, I have a HF lift but I like doing things different, I wouldn't want it any higher than a 2x12" frame will get ya, I used what I had, cost to make one I can't say but it shouldn't be too much I had all the material...... ..

I'm spoiled. I want to stand and have my work at "chest height". I hate rolling on the ground. And arthritis kills me sitting on the milk crate when useing this.

Been thinking about one of these. I'd have to make an "add-on" for pulling the motor out.

Not nearly as cost effective as your idea, but I'm getting so I just can't get down there like that anymore.

Good job on the construction, BTW. :good:

I'm getting 16" to the bottom of the left exhaust on the height with it on the centerstand.. The center platform is 20" wide 6' long, the ramp is 3' long the side platforms should be about 3' long as well by 14" or 16" wide.. I also plan on placing some door hook type latches to the sides to keep everything together while riding up and down, also two large eyebolts for strap down purposes to the sides to make it safe..measure 14" from the end for the slope on the ramp.16" might be better..And I put a 2x4 cut with a angle the same as the slope to go across to make it strong, it was not in photo..

That is a great idea. If you want to go taller, just use 2X10 or 2X12. I plan to level my work area this Spring and this is just the idea I needed to make it even better. Thanks.

the way things are around here .....its better to pull the bike off the ground from above ....no level spot anywhere at all
Joe are you hoisting it up, with a pulley and some kinda hoist devise ?

yea beav if you look at some of the doghouse pics you will see the 83 still hook up to the front of it ....and the chain hoist is in the roof of the dogehouse ..its about 3 ton chain hoist proably 60yrs old or more it realy a tool ...it takes a hoist to put it up ...ithink it took me several hrs or a half a day to put it up....

i wanted to test the trusses i made as for there strength in the middle of the building 18ft from any ground support and hook the 83 front and back and pic right up and had it hanging for couple days or so im fixing to hook the back of the bike again now that everything is strip down to where i want it and pull it back up to a comfortable working hieght....whem i do iw ill take a pic of its been cold so im kinda coasting and mainly working on the doghouse

I'm looking forward to any photo's you take.. sounds cool

I finally made the two side pieces to the ramp thingy stand, here are a couple of photo's, crazy man crazy, if you guys make one of these ramps be sure you make the ramp slope nice and long so the engine won't bottom out like mine did, I thought it was plenty long at 16" so I need to rebuild the ramp and make it with a longer slope..View attachment 2 You should get some door hooks and a screw eye to connect these wooden platforms so nothing moves around while you are riding up and off.. :Egyptian:

And if you get drunk and fall in the lake your keys will float. That's genius! :yahoo:
Actually if you ever lose your key and you are at work or at a ball game or any large event where there's a PA system they can say Dude come get your key's..Well, if your key is really shiney a fish will probably eat it for lunch,,, :smilie_happy:

I would highly recommend fastening some old school latches to connect the platforms, And make the ramp 24" to zero, that's for a 2x8 frame so if your using a 2x10 or 12 make the ramp longer even, this is so the engine doesn't hang up at the top of the ramp, my first try the ramp was too steep and the engine hit on the way down.. Here are some photo's of the latches..View attachment 2View attachment 1 If you are clumbsy don't do try this with the sides locked down I feel better knowing they cant slide out, putting the bike on the stand is the same as if it was on the floor...I love this thing, I was going to work on the bike the other day when it wasn't on the stand and I didn't like it, having it higher is so so so much better..What I like is that it's on the centerstand and it's safe..This is truly really cool and worth it... You can take it out in the driveway and wash your bike and when done just roll on off..I owned a HF jack and I liked it but it always made me nervous, this is on the centerstand.. I'm sure that if a guy were to try it they would like it.. Change the width if you want, I did what was good for me..
