I have a 1982 gl1100 that I had order new bearing to replace the old one the bike has 71,000 miles on it. I had noticed that I could move the wheel from side to side so when I replaced the bearing the bearing on the right on the final drive side just dropped in place did not have to press them in the other side I had to press them in place. I noticed that the bearing has some play should the bearing fit tight did I get the wrong set of bearing, my bike is an aspencade. I had also change the final drive gear because of wear in it any help would be helpful

personally ive never had this problem usually its 1200 wheels that this issue .... if bearing is loose I cant see it getting tight .....maybe someone with some hands on knowledge will post in

Thanks I am just wondering if I was sent the wrong bearing since it is lose in the hub I can take the right side out by hand and my axle I can move it back and forth or is my rim worn out

im thinking wrong bearing ... ive been looking at oldwing forums for yrs ... this would the first 1100 wheel cup for bearing ive ever seen go bad ... im sure they can and it seems it would be obvious to see the damage it seems ...

your hub is bad, bearning are ground to a size of +or- 0.0005 or 40 times smaller then you hair you might have a bad bearning but chance are small that you do. I would take hub to a machine shop and have them sleave it with steel sleaves then you can forget about it ever going bad, I would do both sides,As a machinist I did mine when it went bad best thing that I did

If both the old and the new bearing slip right in then I'd say the hub is beyond spec for that particular bearing diameter.
Maybe a oversized bearing could be a fix?
I would check VERY carefully for any other problems in that hub like cracking etc after a good cleaning.

Also, check the splines on the driven flange in the wheel, and on the final drive. Any play in the wheel bearings tends to destroy the splines. You said you had changed the final drive, so it should be OK, but check 'em and grease 'em! Used rims are cheap on ebay, just be sure you get the right year and size -- they changed several times.
