There is a pivot pin/sleeve (#16 on parts fiche) that generally seizes in place. This pin needs to be free to move so the caliper can centre on the rotor, and pad wear will be equal both sides. If it is not free to move you may/will get uneven pad wear, and possibly binding of the brake(s). I had to hammer the old pins out when I rebuilt the calipers on my bike. Cheers
