My snap ring pliers are not long enough to reach the snap ring, are there any alternatives or am i doomed to buy a longer set of pliers?thanks

I don't think that one is a long enough reach if the snap ring you're talking about is the one inside the swing arm.
I don't have a tool either for that one, it will need to be a long nose type I think.

This one?

They do make long, needly nose type snap ring pliers, but not sure where you would find the easily. If you have a spare pair of long needly nose pliers, you can "modify" the tips to work. I've got a couple pair of them myself that have been modified for just this sorta thing.

snap ring pliers should be a set of different pliers...not one pliers do all and has to be assemble .... a 20 second job shouldnt turn into plier assembley and it still to bulky to work right and cause that the last thing they do is do all...... there to bulky and it can take awhile to do the most simple job ...

I bought a set of the off ebay ..

The ruler is 6"

Just for the record this is his opinion and by no means true for everyone.
